August 24-28th Learning Commons Updates

We hope everyone is having a great week! See below for details for each grade’s lessons this week in the learning commons!

Kindergarten: This week we discussed the American flag, and we designed a class flag for each kindergarten class based on what each class thought was important to them (AASL 1.2.2,NETS-S 1A, ELAGSEKSL5).

1st and 2nd grade: With both grades this week, we read a variety of books and discussed ways we can tell how a book is “just right” when we pick library books. We focused on the 5 finger rule, and students received a bookmark with these rules on them (AASL 1.2.2, NETS-S 1A, ELAGSE1RL2, ELAGSE1RL2).

3rd,4th, 5th grade: Almost classes were able to come check out books this week and discuss which books they would like in the learning commons (AASL 1.2.2).

Books, books, books! (August 17-21)

Most classes were able to visit the learning commons this week in order to check out library books. We were completing some sections of testing in the learning commons this week, but we will be on a normal schedule next week. We have a new fried in the learning commons this week! (See below to meet the new “Bookie Monster” book drop.) Check back next week for details about each grade level’s lessons.

Orientation (August 10-14)

Welcome back all! This week in the learning commons all the classes came through on an alternating schedule with the STEM lab for an orientation session. Students discussed appropriate behavior, tasks they can complete in the learning commons, and check out procedures. Also, a reminder to 3rd-5th grade students: don’t forget to start filling out your “Red Hot Reads” book reviews. Also, 4th and 5th grade students don’t forget to fill out and turn in your reading bowl application by August 25th. Also, broadcast team applications are due for 5th graders on August 17th.
