Learning Commons Updates August 29th-September 2nd

Whew! We’ve had such a busy week this week in the learning commons! Please see details below for all grade level specific lessons:

K: We worked with reviewing elements such as the American Flag as well as Labor this week with Kindergarten classes.  Remember you can check out books for 2 weeks at a time! Some classes came for small group or whole class check out for the second time (AASL 1.2.2, NETS-S 1A, ELAGSEKRL3).

1st: Some classes discusses picked a just-right book for them or focused on re-telling a story. This year remember students get to check out two books at a time! Again, some students came in small group or whole group to check more books (AASL 1.2.2, NETS-S 1A, ELAGSE1RL3).

2nd-5th grade classes: All second, third, fourth, and fifth grade classes continued to review Destiny (which does have some changes this year!) as well as how to find books on their lexile level. Classes continued to check out library books (AASL 1.2.2, NETS-S 1A). Additionally, 5th grade classes reviewed how to complete book reviews. In third grade, Mrs. Massey’s team came in for a book tasting!

Learning Commons Update August 22-26

We continued to see classes in the learning commons this week, and classes who didn’t have the opportunity to search for books using Destiny last week were able to do that this week. Please see details below for each grade level:

K: We worked with the story Moo Bird and went over learning commons behavior as well as introduced self-markers. Kindergarten students who visited this week checked out their first Frey library book! Remember you can check out books for 2 weeks at a time! Some classes came for small group or whole class check out for the second time (AASL 1.2.2, NETS-S 1A, ELAGSEKRL3).

1st: We also worked with Moo Bird, but we discussed how to find a just right book and how this book is probably a little too easy for some. We compared this to a story on our first grade level. First grade students also checked out their first library books of the year, and this year remember they get to check out two books at a time!
