Learning Commons Updates

This week was another busy week in the learning commons! All 15 of our maker Monday spots filled very quickly! Don’t forget students can visit other mornings before school and during the day as long as they have a pass from their teacher and have a plan for their creations. We also celebrated Read Across America week this week with readers from Durham middle school visiting classrooms. Also, don’t forget Friday is dress up like a book character day with the Kindergarten parade in the morning!

Don’t forget that the third nine weeks Biblionasium challenge (read and log 1500 minutes by March 12th) is happening!

We will continuously need donations for the makerspace as well! Think about donations similar to the STEM lab! Feel free to donate art supplies, pipe cleaners, Popsicle sticks, plastic baggies, rubber bands, straws, glue, cotton balls, string and plastic cups! If you can create something out of it, then consider donating it! Donations will be going on year-round, and you can drop off donations in the learning commons. Thank you in advance for your help with this!

This week was another busy week in the learning commons! All 15 of our maker Monday spots filled very quickly! Don’t forget students can visit other mornings before school and during the day as long as they have a pass from their teacher and have a plan for their creations. We have had almost 120 students visit the makerspace in small groups this month, and this doesn’t include whole-class makerspace instruction, such as Mrs. Genesi’s class visiting this week to create groundhog shadow creations!

Don’t forget that the third nine weeks Biblionasium challenge (read and log 1500 minutes by March 12th) is up and running! February break would be a great time to log minutes!

Also, the handout below is coming home about an optional scavenger hunt to complete in Cobb Digital Library. Have your student complete this over break to win a prize from the learning commons!

The public library will be hosting special events over February break next week! Click on the flyer below for more information!

The week we return from break will be Read Across America week! Please see information about that below!
