It has been a while since I have updated the blog! We are currently learning about Apples! We will be sending home some art projects soon that show off our apple trees! A few important things to keep in mind– as the weather is starting to cool off (FINALLY! :)) please send in weather appropriate clothes for us to have on hand in case of an emergency.
We have just set up a few new items in the classroom to help promote independence. We are calling them our busy boards. As needs arise, and items become boring, I may occasionally ask for items to be sent in so that we may change out our busy boards. This way the kids will continue to be entertained by them the remaining of the year.
We had a good first week of school! We are looking forward to our first full week of school this week! We will be working on learning the rules for walking in the hallway. Please review the rules with your student every night, as the more they will hear the rules, the easier time we will have learning the rules. We will reading a social story daily, as well as completing activities to further enforce the rules.
We will continue to work to learn the routine in addition to continuing to learn each other. My expectations for the year are high for the students so I am working hard to convey that message early on. I am very excited for the year!
In addition the rules for hallway behavior we will be learning about emotions and friendship. Our story for this unit is “The Rainbow Fish”.
In addition to “The Rainbow Fish” we will continue to read “I Like Myself”. It is one of my favorite books! It teaches everyone to be proud of themselves. It portrays such a positive message and everyone needs to hear it. I have posted a link to the book if you would like to read it at home.
Just a reminder, if you would like to receive notifications and pictures from school day please join the class on Remind. The code to join is https://www.remind.com/join/mhartin OR text the message @mhartin to 81010
Hello! Welcome to the Marvelous and Outstanding Individuals with Differences class! I am Melissa Harting! I am so excited to be at Frey this year! This will be my fourth year teaching. For the past three years I have been in Fulton County teaching K-5 Autism. I have a two year old son and was looking to be closer to home and the opportunity to join the Frey Family presented itself and I couldn’t turn it down. I am looking forward to a great year and I can’t wait to get to know you and your children throughout the course of the year!
