April 30, 2018

We still have  31/2 more weeks of school, and as busy as it will be, it will go fast!  I have had so much fun with these kiddos this year!  They are all so inquisitive and imaginative and excited to soak it all in!  As some of you know, my last day of this school year will be on May 18th.  I will be having total hip replacement surgery on the 21st, but if you have any questions or problems, Michelle should be able to address them.  If not, she will be able to reach me with any issues.  For those returning to Preschool in August…Michelle and I will be back!

During our last three weeks, we will “splash” into ocean life and the many characters we can meet “under the sea!”  We will focus on the stories Way Down Deep in the Deep Blue Sea by Jan Peck, Pout- Pout Fish by Deborah Diesen, and Ten Little Fish by Audrey and Bruce Wood.

Way Down Deep in the Deep Blue Sea is about a little boy who is on an adventure looking for treasure in the sea. He encounters many different sea creatures on his journey. He finds that not all of them are friendly, but luckily he is really safe in his own bathtub.  Pout- Pout Fish takes you on a swim with a fish who is always pouting, spreading his “dreary wearies” all over the place.  After his friends attempt many different ways to get him to smile, a new friend gives him a different perspective with one little kiss.  Ten Little Fish is a beautifully illustrated counting book with bright colorful fish in a big blue ocean.  This story has engaging rhyming text that reinforces numbers and number concepts and will continue to focus on ocean and beach fun as we near summer vacation.

We will spend the last 3 weeks reviewing all colors and shapes, and we will introduce and practice letters “Aa,” “Oo,” and “Jj.”

April 9, 2018

Welcome back from a beautiful Spring Break!  We are on the final stretch with only 6 more weeks of school.  It goes faster for me every year, but we still have much learning and fun ahead!  Whether you creep, fly, wiggle, or jump, lets get going!

Coming Next

Our next unit will revolve around the stories Over in the Garden by Jennifer Ward, The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle and A Frog in a Bog by Karma Wilson.  A logical and fun way to continue into spring , these rhythmic, song-based stories offer many opportunities for sequencing, number recognition, counting, insect diets, metamorphosis, and pond-life identification.  We will also emphasize things that can grow in a garden, plant some flower seeds, and we will get caterpillars of our own that we will observe through their entire process of becoming butterflies!  We will get on the nature trail and observe some insect life in different areas, and we will continue our explorations through the many related games, songs, art and sensory activities, related stories and imaginative play opportunities in the classroom.

This week we will review letters “Hh,” “Ff” and “Rr.”  Then we will introduce and practice letters “Ii” and “Aa.”  We will also introduce the color purple and the shape  oval to practice through the month of April!
