November

Students are working on nonfiction reading and writing this 9 weeks.  Please encourage your child to pick some nonfiction books from the media center. They are using the boxes and bullets strategy for main idea and details.  Thanks for checking your child’s planner for homework and following up when they are behind with their work.

In math the 3rd and 4th graders are using the multiples songs to help them be successful with multiplication and division. Ask them to sing them at home for extra practice and look over their math homework after doing 2 or 3 problems so they are practicing correctly.

My classes are off to a great start. The fourth and fifth graders jumped back into our classroom routines. The third graders are doing well with new expectations. Please make sure your child is doing their nightly homework and reading log.

This month all the classes are starting  chapter books. I am pleased to see them reading a variety of books and with more independence.  In writing, we are starting personal narratives.  In math, all the grades are working on adding and subtracting with larger numbers and for 5th grade decimal numbers.

Welcome to the new 2018-2019 school year! I’m happy to see some familiar names on my role and some new ones. I am looking forward to the new school year and will be in contact with you soon.
