Our class would love to borrow any games or models that in any way use/show gravity and the forces of push and pull.  Examples are labyrinths, Perplexus, Suspend games, Jenga, race tracks, and marble mazes.  They will be sent home in about two weeks.

Please ask your students if they have glue sticks and dry erase markers.  They need them almost daily, and many are running low.

and then spend a week learning to multiply two 2 digit numbers fluently using the traditional algorithm.Image result for 2 digit multiplication

The traditional method is a 5th grade standard that is being covered in AC 4th grade math.  Students need to be fluent with their multiplication strategies.  Please take some time to quiz them on the tables through 9 to help with this unit.

We will begin studying informational text for the next few weeks.  This week we will cover text features and how they help us better understand informational texts.

Toward the end of this week and next week, we will begin identifying main ideas in informational text and using the main ideas to write a summary of a nonfiction passage.

We will be finishing unit 5 of Wordly Wise this week.   There is a link to games they may use to study on the link above called “Wordly Wise and AR .”  The test will be Friday, October 20 on definitions.

This week will be a review of the 40 spelling words we have covered so far.  The test on Friday will include 20 words, but the students should be prepared to spell all 40 words.  The words are located on the Spelling link on the blog as well as in their spelling notebooks.

Students will be working this week on finishing an Explorer’s Journal.  They have created a persona that worked on the ship of one of the explorers we are studying.  The rough draft is due Tuesday.  The final draft should be ready to be tea-stained by Friday.

Please be aware that in 4th grade student handwriting and writing conventions become much more important.  I have explained to students that they will be rewriting work that is not neat.

Our next unit will be Force and Motion.  We will begin this week by exploring the actions of force, motion, push and pull, and gravitational pull.  These are the main concepts covered in the unit is addition to simple machines.

Please send in any games or toys you have at home that the students can explore this week to begin this unit.

All notes for science will be kept in your students’ Science notebook.  Ask your child to bring their notebooks home to show you what we are covering.  The notebook is also what students should be studying as tests and quizzes occur.
