What do we do?

If you ever stop by the media center and you don’t see us out and about teaching lessons, you may wonder what we’re doing. Here’s a quick list:

  • Attending collaborative meetings with classroom teachers
  • Attending collaborative meetings and training sessions with other media specialists around the county
  • Converting videos created on the iPads to mp4s and uploading them to One Drive to share with teachers to share with you
  • Emails, emails, emails! We have tons of emails everyday from parents, staff, administration and other media specialists
  • Grant researching and writing to fund additional projects and resources for the media center to support student learning
  • Helping students and teachers to find the perfect book to read
  • Helping students find the best print or online resource to help with an assignment and teaching them how to use the resource
  • Leading a group of 5th grade students each morning as they work on the Good Morning Greyhounds live students news broadcast
  • Planning book fairs and other projects to promote reading
  • Printing student projects on the 3D printer
  • Researching resources like School Library Journal to find the latest and greatest books to order for our library
  • Running a small business – supervising student and adult volunteers, keeping track of our media budget, making sure we have supplies to make all areas of the media center run seamlessly
  • Supporting teachers and staff across the building with technology issues and technology lessons
  • Working on the administrative side of several databases – Accelerated Reader (AR), Destiny, Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) and STAR
  • Writing lessons to support the classroom teachers, from preschool through fifth grade – incorporating books and technology tools

As you can see, we really have a variety of tasks each day! And this list doesn’t even count the lessons we’re teaching each day and all the last minute requests that pop-up during the day!
