Welcome Back to the School Year 2018-2019!

Mrs. Gransberry (formerly know as Ms. Ayabe)

Welcome! My name is Mrs. Nao Ayabe Gransberry. I am originally from Tokyo, and a product of the Japanese education system K-12.  While on vacation in the 90’s, I fell in love with the beautiful state of Georgia. Therefore, I decided to continue my education in the United States. I attended Spelman College in Atlanta and earned my undergraduate degree in Psychology.  Thereafter, I continued my journey of the education in Clark Atlanta University and received a Master’s and Educational Specialist’s Degrees in Exceptional Education.

I am now in my 15th year as a math teacher at Griffin Middle School.  I really enjoy teaching because it allows for authentic instruction to a diverse group of students.  I enjoy teaching Math, especially to students who claim that “math is not my thing”.   My teaching style helps students to understand that Math is hard work, but it is very rewarding because it applies to so many real life situations. My goal is not only teach students Math, but teach them good social skills so they can become a better citizen of our society.

For my free time, I enjoy spending my time with my husband, Farris and our son, Kenzo (3 year old) and daughter, Sakura (1 year old).  We love traveling around the world and experiencing different food and cultures.  I enjoy watching Sports (football, baseball, basketball and soccer) with my husband.

I look forward to another great year in the classroom and cannot wait to see the young adult you grow into as the year progresses!
