Week of 3/23/2020

Dear Musicians and Families,

Thank you for bearing with us during this time. Teaching band from a distance has probably been about as difficult as learning band from a distance, and we’re really trying to listen and adjust quickly. Here are some course changes we’re making immediately:

  1. The song video is now due the week of April 13th. Whether we’re in school or online, we’ll take the playing tests then. To those of you who already submitted: thank you! You are so brave and worked so hard! We are working on giving you individual feedback on your songs, and are so impressed with just what we’ve heard so far.
  2. For those of you who have your instruments, is important to us that you do a few things daily. This will maintain/enhance your musicianship! These are your daily assignments:
    1. Practice long tones (2-3 minutes)
    2. Practice your scales (2-3 minutes)
    3. Practice your song (10 minutes)
  1. We know that some of you don’t have instruments at home. You can keep up/advance your music-reading skills! Here are your daily assignments:
    1. Practice reading notes (1-2 minutes)
      1. Treble clef: www.musictheory.net/exercises/note/beoyryymyyybyy
      2. Bass clef: www.musictheory.net/exercises/note/neoyryymyyybyy
    2. Practice reading rhythms (3-5 minutes)

      2. Enter the code pp38yb

Week of August 28 – September 1

Happy Labor Day weekend, Griffin Families!

Our music department fundraiser kicks off next week on Wednesday, September 6th. This fundraiser allows us to buy instruments, supplies, and hire professional musicians, all which benefit every student in the Griffin Band. We ask that you sell 10 items, or make a general donation to the band program. 10 items is the equivalent of $40 profit for the organization. Thank you in advance for your support.
