Learning Goal(s):  Gain understanding of Colonial/Puritan literary time period and understand and use figurative language

  • MUG 3A (class notebook CNB-MUG section)
  • Continue reading and analyzing The interesting Narrative of the Life of OE (PDF handout in our CBN/Assignment/OE) analyzing diction and pathos in persuasion with CEI paragraph formative assessment. (directions on same page in CNB-download word document)

Independent Work Session

  • Lit Term Tuesday-work on Rhetorical device Project-due tomorrow end of day
  • Work on CEI

 

WEDNESDAY

Independent workday and sessions as needed

CTLS Live Session

  • Background to Henry’s Speech
  • Whole group Guided Practice: Under document camera, close read Patrick Henry’s speech to Virginia Convention annotating rhetorical devices/figurative language/appeals together. Print out document if possible, if not annotate in CNB (CNB/handouts/Give me Liberty)

Independent Work Session

  • Submit CEI to CTLS with claim highlighted pink, textual evidence with citation yellow and interpretation/analysis gray)

 

 FRIDAY

LG: Analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of the structure and rhetoric an author uses in his argument in seminal U.S. texts (RI4-6,8)

CTLS Live Session

  • Review Rhetorical Devices with PPT (CNB/Handout/Review)
  • Formative assessment: Individually analyze rhetorical devices using modern day speech:  Al Pacino’s “Inch by Inch” speech from the film Any Given Sunday (CNB/Quiz/Any Given Sunday)

Independent Work Session

  • Read your independent choice novel and enjoy FALL BREAK!
