Language Arts Period 1 & 3 with Ms. Tansey:  There will be a test over the novel Tangerine on Wednesday.  It will cover the amount of the novel that we have read as of today.  Paul has enrolled in Tangerine Middle School in the hopes of playing soccer for the school.  Language Arts teachers will be available before school tomorrow and Wednesday to answer any questions or help you with any problems you are having.  Check in with Ms. Sewell in the cafeteria and head to the class where the review is happening.  ( Check the sign in board).  Don’t forget to continue your dialogue journal every day.

Language Arts Period 2 & 4:  We will have a quiz on Friday over the vocabulary and the reading to date for Tangerine.  Make sure you have finished your vocabulary words.  Several of you have makeup work or completion work that needs to be turned in ASAP.  Check Synergy for the work that you need to turn in.

Reading Period 5 with Mr. Hince:  There will be a reading quiz this Friday over the Outsiders to date.  The quiz will have vocabulary and comprehension questions.  Check Mr. Hince’s blog for a quizlet to help you study.  There is a link to Mr. Hince’s blog on the right side of this blog.

May Day!

Language Arts 1, 3:  We will be having a quiz over pages 1-32 in the novel Tangerine tomorrow.  Vocabulary words are also included on this quiz.  Go to Ms. Tansey’s blog to review the answers to the web quest, check vocabulary definitions and brush up on information you need to know about Tangerine.

Language Arts 2 & 4:  We are reading the novel Tangerine and set up a dialectical journal today in 4th period.  We will have a quiz next Tuesday over pages 1-32 and the vocabulary words and web quest.

Reading 5:  There is a blog question due this week.  There will be a quiz on Thursday.  Check Mr. Hince’s blog to answer the question and review for the quiz.  There is a link to his blog on the right sidebar of my blog!

Language Arts Period 1 & 3 with Ms.  Tansey:  We are working on our Argumentative essay.  Outlines and evidence/ reasons paperwork should be complete and you should be on your way to a final copy.  If you are struggling and have not had a writer’s conference, come to me at the beginning of class so that we can get you back on track.

Language Arts Period 2 & 4:  We have a variety of stations going on in the LA classroom.  Some students are finishing their Expository paper on The Role of Advertising in the lives of youth.  Some people are working on flip charts for Argumentative Vocabulary, while others are reading and studying about the  parts of an argumentative essay and completing guided notes.

Reading Period 5 with Mr. Hince:  We have been studying the story Farewell to Manzanar.  You will have a test on Thursday.  Have you  been to Mr. Hince’s  blog yet?  He posted a study guide   which you can also find here: Study-Guide-Test-11g3p30 march 22-2mqee7q      Be sure that you understand the difference between a primary and secondary source.  Review your learning station skills:  Declaration of War reflection, Figurative language, and the December Riot.

Language Arts Period 1 & 3 with Ms. Tansey:  Today we discussed claims and reasons.  In addition, students were given a sample essay in which the sentences were scrambled.  The challenge was to decode the puzzle and organize the sentences into fluid paragraphs.  Tomorrow students will work on their outlines and rough drafts for their Argumentative Essay.

Language Arts Period 2:  Students worked on finishing their original body paragraphs.  When finished, they worked on the Introduction to their paper.

Language Arts Period 4:  Students reviewed information about Explanatory   in order to retake last weeks quiz.  A study guide can be found here: Study Guide- quiz-1023p4v.

Language Arts Period 1 & 3 with Miss Tansey:  Be sure to check Synergy and make sure that all of your work is up to date.  The quarter closes on Friday and we will be submitting grades!  Don’t be caught with a zero on something that is sitting in your folder!  There will be  a test on Friday.  Ms. Tansey will hold a help session on Thursday morning.  Please come and ask any questions that you have.  This session is not a substitute for good old fashioned studying.  Review your NOTES ON ARGUMENTATIVE WRITING, review your notes from the Media Center lesson on credible sources and reliable web sites.  Review the questions to ask when determining reliable information.

Reading Period 5 with Mr. Hince:  There is a blog response due this week on Mr. Hince’s blog.  There will be a QUIZ on Thursday over Farewell to Manzanar to date.  Review your character chart for the names of principal characters, know the terms for each generation of Japanese immigrants in the United States at the time of Pearl Harbor, review our discussion about the motivation of each character.  Why do they do what they do?  Review the sequence of events in the story so far.  Refer to Mr. Hince’s blog for a study guide.  There is a link to his blog on the right side bar.

Language Arts Period 1 & 3 with Ms. Tansey:  We have started to learn about Argumentative writing!  We discussed the elements to include in an argumentative piece.  This FRIDAY you will have a quiz over the vocabulary terms associated with this assignment.  The terms and definitions are on the back page of the packet that you have been working on.    Be sure to finish you foldable and check your work with the sample in class.  Can’t find your packet.  Check for a new one in the wall pocket by the classroom door in Ms. Tansey’s room.

Language Arts Period 2 & 4:  This week we are working on perfecting the topic sentence in an Explanatory paragraph.  We are reviewing punctuation too.  Comma placement in complex sentences and in sentences with appositives have been reviewed.  We also reviewed 3 ways to punctuate compound sentences.  Up next is the Springboard strategy called TLQ which will help add clarity and coherence to our writing.  Students are practicing an information paragraph in class.

Reading Period 5 with Mr. Hince:  We are practicing reading skills with primary documents and gathering background knowledge in preparation to read Farewell to Manzanar.  There is a blog homework question this week.  It will close on Thursday night.  Use the link on the right sidebar to access Mr. Hince’s blog and answer the HW question NOW.  Please do not wait until the last minute to do this.  If you have trouble with the link or the internet, tell us BEFORE the due date so that you can get credit for the assignment.  If you wait until after it is due, it will be too late.

Language Arts Periods 1 &3 with Ms. Tansey:  Language Arts papers are due tomorrow.  Continue your revisions and final copy work from home.  We will print in the lab on Tuesday and I will work with those who need last minute consultations on the final stages of the writing process.
