Language Arts with Ms. Tansey:  Don’t forget the test on Thursday !

Phrases, clauses, coordinating and subordinating conjunctions.  Study those words!  Also study the order of the writing process!  Check Ms. Tansey’s blog as well for helpful hints.  Your packet is your study guide for phrases, clauses and conjunctions.

Today we talked about the importance of prefixes in determining the meaning of words in context.  We took a pretest on prefixes and analyzed our defi

nitions against those that were provided.  The prefix information will be added to the Vocabulary notebook.

Language Arts with Ms. Tansey: Today we reviewed and practiced the identification of phrases and clauses and discussed how subordinating conjunctions contribute to dependent clauses.  Remember your packet is due WEDNESDAY!

The weekend is here!

Four day weeks are notoriously busy.  In Reading,  we are finishing up a test on the first 48 pages of The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens.  Library plans are due.

In Language Arts, we are finishing our first formal paragraph and working on phrases and two types of clauses to enhance our writing.

In Seventh period we are working on point of view and perspective and writing from both point of view and perspective.

Rest up…IOWA and COGAT tests begin next week!

Reading with Mr. Hince: Period 3 & 5  Tomorrow we will finish the test. Library plans are due tomorrow.  There will be a computer cart in the room for you to put finishing touches on your plan.  If you still have a lot to do, don’t plan on being able to finish in class.  Spend some time on it tonight.

Language Arts with Ms. Tansey:  Period 4 & 6

We will be finishing work on our first five sentence paragraph tomorrow.  Students are writing, revising with a checklist and typing/publishing.

Today was a busy day at Dickerson!  We had a successful Code Red Drill to start the day!  Next,  we had our first DMS Challenge class for the school year.  Successful team building and support for others was our topic today.

Reading with Mr. Hince: Period 3 & 5- After a review game, we will take a test over pages 1-46 of The 7 Habits of Successful Teens tomorrow.  It will include Get in the Habit, Paradigms and Principles and The Personal Bank Account.  Please make sure that your Reading Guide called The Private Victory is finished by tomorrow.  If you are finished , continue the Winners Win test review that you worked on in class today.

Remember that your Library Plan is due on Friday.

Language Arts with Ms. Tansey: Per 4 & 6

Work continues on the revision process for the five sentence paragraph about The Scholarship Jacket.  In class today we also began work on phrases and clauses as well as coordinating and subordinate conjunctions.  Start memorizing those AAAWWWWUUBBIS-T words!

Language Arts-7th period:  Today we finished looking at Point of View with a discussion about pronouns that identify types of point of view.  Students took  a learning check to determine their level of mastery on the topic.  We will have a quiz next Tuesday over Point of View and Perspective.

Language Arts with Ms. Tansey: Period 4 & 6:  Your study guide is due tomorrow!  Continue to review for the test on Thursday.  Look at the Figurative Language Packet, Review the slides on Ms. Tansey’s blog, check the answers to the Figurative Language sort on her blog.

Review the Point of View Keeper and the practice handout.  Answers to the handout are on Ms. Tansey’s blog.  Review The Scholarship Jacket and the questions and review your Academic Writing notes and annotation notes in your textbook.

Reading with Mr. Hince:  Period 3 & 5-

Quiz Wednesday- Check Mr. Hince’s blog. ( There is a link to his blog on the right side bar….scroll down)  While you are there, do the blog response.  Remember to type  it on a word document  or hand write it and then either upload it or type it in.  That way you have EVIDENCE of completion!!!!

Did you finish your 7 Habits Guided Reading?  Remember that you need to finish it at home if you have not done so.  Omit/Don’t do #13.

Language Arts with Ms. Tansey: Period 4 & 6-

Test Thursday– Work on the study guide that you received in class.  It is due ( homework grade) on Wednesday.  We will go over it on Wednesday as we review for the test.  The test will cover Figurative Language, Point of View/Perspective, The Scholarship Jacket, Annotation and Academic writing with evidence citation.

Language Arts with Ms. Tansey: Today we worked on finding evidence to support point of view and perspective in The Scholarship Jacket.  Students worked on this in class and will finish it on Monday.  We will have a test next Thursday 30, 2018 August over Figurative Language, Point of View, and paragraph notes. More details to follow.  Copies of the paragraph notes are on Ms. Tansey’s blog.  I will put them here as soon as I get a healthy flash drive!  Don’t forget to visit Ms. Tansey’s blog and do last night’s homework.  She will take it down soon so this is your last chance!

Language Arts Period 7- Today we reviewed  Figurative Language Terms.  The students are working on a packet applying the terms to examples.  We will have a quiz on this information soon .  Date to be determined.

Tomorrow is picture day at Dickerson.  All students will have their picture taken for the yearbook.  If you want a picture package, please return the green envelope with your payment.  Thank you!

Reading with Mr. Hince: Period 3 & 5:

Have  you been reading 20 minutes per night?  If not have you read an average of twenty minutes daily over the week/ weekend?  Remember that independent reading is part of learning to be a strategic reader!

You will have a quiz Friday over theme and the first 9 pages of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens.

Today we practiced identifying theme and writing a theme statement.  We also read from The 7 Habits, discussed the meaning of the word paradigm and the word vivacious.  Techniques for determining the meaning of a word when a dictionary isn’t available were discussed.

Language Arts with Ms. Tansey: Period 4 & 6-

Bell Ringer# 3  Write a short story (4-7 sentences) from the perspective of your pencil.  Write in the first person.  Today we worked on a Study Guide for the short story called The Scholarship Jacket.  Students worked independently.  Those who did not finish the study guide will need to complete it for homework.  Ms. Tansey will post a link to the story on her blog so you do not need to take your textbook home to complete your work.

TEST THURSDAY AUGUST 30 over Figurative Language, Point of View, Perspective and Annotation.

Language Arts Period 7:

Bell Ringer # 3:  Today everyone was asked to write a description of their favorite food.  The task was to include taste, feel what it looks like and what it reminds you of.  It was our best writing yet!

Students are finishing their personal characteristics recipe.
