Our line of inquiry for the week ending Sept 14 was: American Symbols– (United States Flag, Georgia Flag, Pledge of Allegiance). We focused on a variety of symbols to investigate what a symbol is and why we use them. We ended our week by going on a hunt for symbols that represent our school, state, and country.

Last week we learned:

IB UNIT- WHO WE ARE: ALL ABOUT ME AND MY COMMUNITY: HOW CAN COMMUNITY MEMBERS GET ALONG? (FEELINGS)

ELA:

  • Texts that explored emotions while also expanding our vocabulary about feelings. We will also explore colors and how they can represent our feelings.
  • Phonics: 3 letters can be used to make words: short vowel cvc words (cub, rib, ham, rod).
  • WRITING:
  • Learning how to write: draw, label, touch and retell.
  • Students will write about their feelings. We will create an anchor chart of feeling words (ex: happy, excited, joyful, merry)

MATH:

  • Number sense numbers 0-10
  • Identifying what number come next and before, using a 100 chart.
  • Count to 50
  • Describe, identify, sort by common characteristics: 2 D shapes: circle, square, triangle, rectangle, oval, hexagon. We are comparing by number of sides, vertices, types of line (straight, curved), size and color.
