Monday, 1/13:

  • Intro Vocabulary Unit 1 PPT + Choosing the Right Word
  • Continue SB perspectives unit
  • Intro Anglo-Saxons as preview to reading/analyzing Beowulf

Learning Goals:  Consider perspectives and how personal experiences create interpretations of events in a text. Standards: ELAGSE11-12RL2: Determine two or more themes or central ideas of text and analyze their development over the course of the text, including how they interact and build on one another to produce a complex account; provide an objective summary of the text. ELAGSE11-12RL10: By the end of grade 12, read and comprehend literature, including stories, dramas, and poems, in the grades 11-12 text complexity band independently and proficiently.

Tuesday, 1/14:

  • In LC for mini-research on the Anglo-Saxons in preparation for reading/analyzing Beowulf

Wednesday, 1/15:

Thursday, 1/16:

  • Vocabulary Unit 1 – Synonyms/Antonyms + Completing the Sentence
  • Begin reading/analyzing Beowulf tracking literary devices as we read

Friday, 1/17:

  • Novel Check for research
  • Complete bib card for primary source as a class
  • First independent reading day – novel for research
  • Independent Reading – LG’s for Research: Read/analyze to incorporate primary source quotes and begin to develop support for the argument for my paper. Identify evidence of literary techniques and structures as a basis for interpreting my research novel: CEI = Claim, Evidence, Interpretation. Standards: ELAGSE11-12RL2: Determine two or more themes or central ideas of text and analyze their development over the course of the text, including how they interact and build on one another to produce a complex account; provide an objective summary of the text.
