Intro to Business and Technology

UNIT 1 Test this Thursday, August 30, 2018  (Review on Monday AND Wednesday)

Covers: Employability Skills, Professional Appearance, Cover Letters, Job Applications, Resume, References, SMART Goals, Teamwork, Memo Formatting

On Your Own This Week: Go to and click on Technology, Click on Microsoft Word 2016 and complete Lesson 5 and Lesson 6 – This is great practice in preparation for Microsoft Exam Certification. 

This week:

Monday – Teamwork – Students will recite their Teamwork Quotes – Synergy – Human Knot Activity to Demonstrate Teamwork – Excerpts from Remember the Titans to demonstrate Tuckman’s Stages of Team Development. We will create a graphic organizer using SmartArt to represent Forming, Storming, Norming and Performing Stages with examples. I will tell students about the test today so they can begin to study.

Tuesday – Teamwork – Finish Graphic Organizer using SmartArt  – Teambuilding Activity –  Tabs and Tables Lesson in Microsoft Word with emphasis on Tabs within a table.

Wednesday – Teamwork/Review – Short class today due to early release – Paddle Board Review for test tomorrow. Two activities in Microsoft Word to show skills learned in Tabs and Tables from yesterday.

Thursday – Unit 1 Test – When we are finished, we will spend some time in GMETRIX – First three modules are due on September 17th with a score of >80%.

Friday – Restaurant Simulation – We will create letterhead for our respective restaurants using LOGOS previously created.

 Tuesday – Objectives:  Dress for Success

Give everyone a dress for job success handout – let’s review – students highlight – Discuss various dress expectations in the workplace regarding different situations:  company picnic, Christmas party, interview, daily dress, dress down days.

Students create a mini poster reflecting proper business attire – Use magazines

Wednesday – Objectives:  SMART Goals

Bellringer: Scenarios – Tagged – Proper business attire

Lecture on short term, intermediate and long term goals

Lecture on career, personal, educational goals

Students create a graphic organizer for their life goals.

Students take notes on SMART Goals

Thursday – Objectives: Job Applications

Make a graphic organizer and go ahead and fill in employability skills and professional appearance.

Let’s talk about job applications – to do and NOT to do – show samples of job applications – Let’s fill out an application for employment.

Review the DOL handout for employment applications

Explain to student that they need references for next week.

What kind of skills do you think employers want from you? What kind of skills would you want in an employee? Let’s make a list on the board.

Groups of 2…………..  classify cards into three groups and then color the cards
