Mrs. Way’s Newsletter 1-11-19

Welcome to 2019!  We are having a great week learning about New Year’s Day, weather and getting back in the swing of things.

Report cards are coming home today!  Make sure you look for them.

Next week we will be learning about Martin Luther King, Jr., the 100th day of school, and numbers and one more.

Book Club is starting today.  This is a set of books that will be sent home in a manilla folder.  Read these books with your child and fill out the worksheet.   Take a few days to do this (read each book three times), and send it back about once a week.  I have not previewed these books with your child, so you get a better idea of their reading skills.

100th Day of school will be next Thursday.  There was a note sent home earlier this week about a collection of 100 things.  Please work with your child to bring in a collection of 100 things.  You may bring it any day next week.

It is time for a change.  I would like a more interactive site to communicate with you.  Please follow the directions below to sign into the seesaw app.  This is how the newsletter will be distributed as well as I get to send you information on just your child as well as have a text type of communication system.

This week we have learned about gingerbread men.  We have read many different versions and have compared them.  We have learned about our teen numbers and strategies to count them correctly.  Today we had a gingerbread man hunt.  Ask your child about it.

Next week we will be learning about holidays around the world and different customs that different families have.  If you would like to come share what your family does for the holidays I would like to invite you to come spend about 15 minutes with us.  Please let me know and we can plan a time and day that works best for both of us.

Our holiday party is on Thursday, Dec. 13th.  Mrs. Martinez should be contacting you with all of the details.

For the safety of all, left turns from our front entrance onto John Ward Rd  will not be permitted during morning drop off (7-8am). All cars exiting will turn right and proceed to the round-a-bout.

As we enter our colder, winter months we wanted to send some friendly reminders:

1.     Please be sure to label your child’s belongings, including sweatshirts, coats, hats, and gloves, if possible. It helps us keep our Lost & Found to a minimum by helping their belongings find the right owner.

2.     When weather permits, students still go outside for recess, PE, and other learning activities during cold winter months. Please be sure that your child has appropriate, labeled clothing.

The county has provided Cold Weather Guidelines (District Administrative Rule: IDBC-R) in which we practice:

When the outside temperature or wind chill factor is 40 degrees Fahrenheit or below,

school staff should take students outside no longer than 15 minutes. Students should wear

appropriate clothing.

We have resources available for those who might need assistance with cold weather attire. Please contact one of our amazing counselors.

Looking ahead into December, many families celebrate the holidays in different ways.  If you would like to come share what your family does for the holidays I would like to invite you to come spend about 15 minutes with us.  Please let me know and we can plan a time and day that works best or both of us.

If you chose an item from the giving tree, please send in the item unwrapped by Monday.
