Week of October 16

I hope everyone had a great weekend! It was so good seeing so many of you at the Fall Festival! I hope you all enjoyed the fun!

Here are some updates from our class:

  • This week is conference week. School will be dismissed 2 hours early. I am looking forward to meeting with you this week! Conference reminders were sent home Friday.

  • We are doing class t-shirts this year! These shirts will be worn to our field trips. Please send in a white t-shirt for your child by this Tuesday, October 17. If we do not get enough shirts, we will be unable to make them. Any extra donations will be greatly appreciated!

 

Here is what we are learning this week:    *shortened schedule due to conference week

Phonics

  • We will be learning about diagraphs. This week we are focusing on the diagraph “ch”.

Writing

  • We will begin our unit on informational writing. We will be researching bats together and collecting facts about them.
  • We will discuss the difference between a fact and an opinion.

Math

  • We will continue to build our fact fluency. We will be learning about doubles facts (2+2, 3+3, etc.) and doubles +1 facts (2+3, 3+4, etc.)

Week of October 9

We had a wonderful last week of Quarter 1! Can you believe it is moving so fast?!

Here are some updates from our class:

  • Early release is this Thursday, October 12. School will be dismissed at 12:15.

  • We had a great time at our Author’s Tea on Friday. Our kiddos have worked so hard on their narrative writing this quarter. Here are some pictures from the fun!

  • Fall Centers will be Friday, October 27 at 12. If you would like to sign up to volunteer to come or send in items, please follow this link: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e054aacad2aaaf58-october. Thank you to Mrs. Davenport and Mrs. Wallace for organizing this fun event!
  • Conference scheduling forms were sent home this past Thursday. Please return this as soon as possible to we can be sure to accommodate everyone’s schedule. Conference week will be October 16-20 and school will be dismissed 2 hours early.
  • We will be making class t-shirts this year to wear to special events like our field trips. We will be using tie dye to design the shirts. These shirts will be worn on class field trips as well as other special events throughout the year. We are asking parents to send in a solid white t-shirt by Tuesday, October 17th.

  • Nickajack PTA’s Fall Festival is this Friday, October 16. Come on out and enjoy the fun!

Week of October 2

I hope everyone had a wonderful Fall Break! I hope it was spent relaxing with family and friends. I know I had an amazing time at the beach with my family.

Here are some updates from our class:

  • Thank you to Ms. Wallace (McKay’s mom) for being our copy helper before the break and thank you to Ms. Vanwinkle (A’Corye’s mom) for being our Mystery Reader!
  • A Fall writing assignment was sent home with your child before the break. Please have your child complete this and return to school on Thursday, October 5.
    • Please have your child sound out the words independently. We ask that you do not spell a word for your child, but instead encourage them to write the letter sounds they hear.

  • Be on the lookout for conference scheduling forms. Conference week is the week of October 16. School will be dismissed 2 hours early this week.
  • Picture day is Tuesday, October 3. Picture day ordering forms were sent home before the break.

    • compare and contrast the book and the movie

Writing

  • students will be sharing their writing worked on at home at our author’s chair Friday, October 6

Math

  • Students will continue to work on learning different strategies to solve addition and subtraction equations within 10.

  • We will begin our economics unit. Students will be learning about good and services, producers and consumers, needs and wants, and scarcity.

Week of September 18

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! It was great to see some of our kiddos at the Great Skate on Sunday!

Here are some updates from our class:

  • Thank you to those who have backed the Jack! The annual campaign ended this past week and I cannot wait to see if we reached our goal!
  • Field trip permission forms were sent home with your child this past week. We are going to Sleepy Hallow Farm on Tuesday, October 24. This is a great field trip where students get to learn about how pumpkins are grown, they get to ride on a hayride, go through a corn maze, pet some farm animals, and much more! Please return the permission form and $15 as soon as possible.
    • We are allowed to have 3 chaperones on this field trip. Please let me know by next Friday, September 22 if you would like to go. Chaperones are asked to pay $15. They may not ride the school bus and can follow the busses or meet us there. If I get more than 3 parents interested, I will draw 3 names randomly from a bucket.
  • There will be no school next week (September 25-29) due to Fall Break! I hope everyone enjoys this time with family and friends.

We had a great short week of learning this week! The kiddos did a great job on their CogAT test!
