Veteran’s Day Celebration

Good Day Teasley Parents,
We are gearing up for our annual Veteran’s Day Celebration. Our fabulous 2nd Graders will entertain us with song, dance and spoken word as we honor those who have served our country. All are welcome to attend our celebration November 2nd at 6:30 in the Teasley Gym.

We would love to recognize moms, dads, grandparents, aunts and uncles, neighbors and family friends who have served in any branch of the military at our program. If you know of anyone who would be a great honoree, please have them to sign up using the Google Link below. We are hoping for a great turn out. It will be an honor to see and shake hands of all who have served.

Deadline for honorees is November 1st.
Thank you so much for spreading the word about our program and we hope that you will join us.

Fall Break….right around the corner

Hello 1st Grade Families –

It is hard to believe we are just around the corner from Fall Break. I hope your family will enjoy the break and make some fun memories together. We are staying here as it is football season and Mr. Hal has practice all week. We will be doing some things around home. It will be great to spend some time with my 3 sweet babies.

If during this break or anytime during the year, you find yourself traveling, we would love to see maps, pictures, newspapers, or any other artifact from your trip. Please feel free to send them in with your child to share with the class. One of the standards in 1st grade is learning the 7 continents, different land forms, and weather. This is a great way for us to make connections and build upon our learning.

Tiger Reading Challenge:

Information came home on a blue piece of paper and an orange slip of paper  about online resources and the Tiger Reading Challenge. I would LOVE for each student to earn a medal this year for completing each Reading Challenge each month! There are no longer paper forms to fill out. It is all done online. I told the kids I want Mrs. Crosby to be weighed down with medals for our class at the end of the year.  For more information check out the link below.

Rise and Shine: For 1st graders, Rise and Shine is Wednesday and Friday. If students want to participate in Rise and Shine, they need to be at school no later than 7:30am. Before students can go to the gym, they must come to the room and unpack. Coach closes the doors at 7:35am or when they are full. The students enjoy this time. Note: If there is a school wide morning activity (ex: All Pro Dads), Rise and Shine is cancelled.

Brrrrrrrrrrr……………………….Our classroom this year is either COLD and HOT! I have very little control over the temperature. If your child gets cold, please send a light sweater or jacket for them to wear. Would be best it is was standard school attire, but not required. If not SSA, they will not be able to wear it out of the classroom.

Updates – Many

1st off – I am sorry that I have not been updating this weekly. I will strive to do better from here on out.

Hope everyone enjoyed the 3-day weekend. It was great to relax and spend time with family and friends.

Today in your child’s purple folder is:

  1. September homework calendar: Please know that I do not require homework. It is meant to be something that you and your child can do at home in about 10 minutes or less. If it is causing your family stress, tears, and melt downs, then please do not worry about it. Do what you and your child can handle. Please – remember to read nightly.
  2. September specials calendar: Remember tennis shoes/sneakers need to be worn for PE days. Also, note some other important dates on the calendar.
  3. T-shirt reminder: If you have not ordered a 1st grade class t-shirt and want to, please return the form and money ASAP. Shirts will be ordered this week.

CogAT: Students will be participating in the CogAT testing starting Wednesday, September 6 – Friday, September 8. I have not made a “big deal” at this to the students. We will take the test right away in the morning each day.

Please make sure your child:

  1. Gets plenty of sleep
  2. Eats a good breakfast
  3. Arrives at school on time

Tiger Paws:

Several students have earned Tiger Paws for having outstanding Teasley Ten behaviors. We are adding caring to the list of behaviors. This is the first Learner Profile we are learning about this year in connection with becoming an PYP IB school. By the end of the week, ask your child how they can be caring!

Every few weeks the behavior committee does a drawing for all the students who have earned a Tiger Paw. This first time around, our very own Ryan Gokul had his Paw drawn. He was able to enjoy a special ice cream treat with the administration on afternoon. Tiger Paws can be earned each and everyday. It is always great to recognize the outstanding Teasley Tiger behaviors. Thanks for supporting this effort at home.

It is hard to believe that we are on day 26 of 1st grade. I have seen some great work and effort from all the students. We are getting into our routine. Check out some pictures from different activities in class. It is great to watch the students learn and grow each day here at Teasley.

Other Information:

  1. Snack time has changed to 10:55.
  2. Students can check out a book from my classroom library each day.
  3. Tiger Reading Challenge has started for September. Your child will bring home information about soon. The books that are read are now logged online. No paper forms. This is done through the school library and students can earn a medal if they complete the reading challenge each month.
  4. Reminder – Our classroom is either COLD or HOT. I encourage the students to bring a light sweater or sweatshirt (standard school attire appropriate preferred) each day. They can leave it in their chair pocket and put it on when our ice box, I mean, our air conditioner turns on. I have NO control over it. Sorry!!

Class Pets:

The students are really enjoying our class pets……Okay, maybe not a class pet. However, we have enjoyed watching the birds and feeding the birds. These two feeders are right outside our classroom window. It is great to see many different types of birds on the feeders.

Silly pictures from the Eclipse Day!
