Week of October 30th – November 3rd

October25

Next week in class:

Math – We will continue to work on math strategies for addition and subtraction.  Next week we will introduce Place Value Strategy and Break Apart Strategy.  Please continue to work on addition and subtractions facts.

Grammar – We will learn about root words – prefixes and suffixes.

Spelling/Phonics – Students will recognize and use one and two syllable words with vowel diphthong /oi/.  The spelling test for this week will not be the usual “circle the correct spelling.”  Students will have to spell the words.  I suggest flash cards with the words written on them for practice.

Reading – Students will be reading about James Oglethorpe.  They will be creating a time line of James Oglethorpe’s life and his impact on Georgia history.

Writing – We will continue with procedure writing.  We will start a new bend in writing – identifying non-fiction text features.

Social Studies – We will still be learning about the Creek and Cherokee Indians and how they used natural resources to survive.  We will also compare and contrast the Creek and Cherokee to life today.
