Big Shanty’s Holiday Giving Market will open on Tuesday, December 11th. Each class will visit for a preview on Tuesday or Wednesday. They may make purchases on Tuesday or Wednesday during their class preview time or on Thursday morning or Friday morning. The great thing about the Giving Market is that every single student is given a “Giving Dollar” that they can use to purchase an item.

We hope that you can join us for your child’s scheduled Thanksgiving lunch. There will be a photographer available during lunch times to take family pictures as well. Our class will be Tuesday, November 13th at 11:30.

Tuesday will be the ornament painting with our Art teacher Mrs. Thompson. More info on Big Shanty’s homepage.

Friday will be our STEM Day and Gobble, Gobble Science Day. Please, check a previous post below for more information on volunteering and donations.

Please bring in cans each day this week.

Sparkles Spirit Night will be held on Tuesday, October 30, from 4-8pm. Come in your costume and party with all your KES and BSIS friends. Sparkles is only open for our schools.

We are also collecting supplies for Mostly Mutts this week. Please see the attached flyer for the supplies that are being collected.

Week of October 22nd

The week of October 22 is Red Ribbon Week.  Show your support in taking a stand against drugs.  A flyer went home last week about this and in your Remind 101 text message.

This week in math we will be working on multiplication and begin division. In Social Studies we will continue to learn about the causes of the American Revolution. In reading we are learning how to identify character traits and in writing we will begin working on our fictional narratives.

UPCOMING EVENTS

  • September 11: Patriots Day at 1:00 – Wear Red, White and Blue. Popsicles will be sold for $1.00.
  • September 11: Chick Fil A Night 6-8  (at Chastain Meadow)
  • September 14: Jamboree Carnival– 6-8 pm
  • September 13-18: 3rd and 5th Grade IOWA testing.

WHAT WE ARE LEARNING:

Math: 3rd and 4th grade will be working on their adding and subtracting skills throughout the week. 5th grade will be working on expressions and the power of 10.

Science: We are learning about the Solar System! 3rd grade will also be doing mini lessons on rock and soil while 5th grade works on Deconstruction and Constructive forces.

ELA: In writing we will continue working on our personal narratives. In reading we will continue work on our bullying module and finding the main idea.
