Welcome to the start of a great school year! I look forward to getting to know your children as they have starting coming down for small group reading and/or writing! This week we spent our time introducing ourselves to each other, going over classroom procedures during small group time, and becoming familiar with the activities we will be doing during small group time.
Reading- Students in small group reading were introduced to all of our literacy stations! They have become experts in working quietly at a station independently for a 10-15 minute period. Our stations are spread out throughout the classroom and each station has a different focus. Some of these skills are: sight word recognition, spelling, listening comprehension, reading fluency, and hands on word work. I am beyond pleased with the work they have completed so far during reading time! We will begin guided reading and book totes next! Students will bring their book totes home beginning Monday. Please read with your children every night for at least 20 minutes.
Writing- Students in small group writing were introduced to our writing schedule! We will be focusing our time on a different aspect of writing each day. On Friday’s, students will be able to pick their own topic from their list of favorite things that they created, to free write on their own. I look forward to conferencing with students about their ideas and their writing.
Please shoot me an email if you have any questions or concerns. I love working with your children already, and I cannot wait to watch them grow throughout the school year.
