Here are some sample comprehension questions that you can use when reading with your child at home.
Who were the characters in the story?
Where did the story take place? (setting)
Was there a problem in the story?
What was the solution to the problem?
Did you learn any new words?
What was your favorite part of the story?
What was your favorite character and why?
Did you enjoy the illustrations?
What illustrations did you like best and why?
What happened in the beginning of the story, middle of the story, and what happened at the end?
Would you like to read this book again?
Did you find any sight words you know?
Did you hear any rhyming words?
Did you come to a word that you did not know? How did you figure it out?
Find a letter, find a word, and find a sentence.
Find a capital letter at the beginning of a sentence, find spaces, and find some punctuation at the end of a sentence.
