Here is what we will be learning this week:

Spanish

We will be learning about connections within text, compare and contrast.

We will be discussing “monosilabas with Y and Ch”

High Frequency Words:  cuerpo (body), dificil (difficult), empezar (beginning), porque (why), seguir (follow)

 Grammar: Word Classification

We will continue adding within 100, including adding a tow digit number and a one digit number as  well as adding two digit numbers and a multiple of ten. For example, 35 +4, 86+4, 48 +10, 23 + 40.

We will continue with the discussion of Lewis and Clark. We will describe how they were influenced by their time and place. Also, we will be identifying their contributions while explaining how their everyday life were similar to and different from everyday life in the present.

Week of January 8th

All Cobb County schools are closed Monday, January 8, for both students and staff,
due to the forecast of freezing rain and the impact on roads and travel.

We are starting our third quarter! Only one more quarter left. Amazing!

Here is what we will be learning this week:

Spanish

We will focus on describing new characters and settings. Also, we will make predictions about the text.

We will be discussing “monosilabas with J and G”

High Frequency Words:  allá (there), cantar (sing), decidieron (decided), estoy (am), juguemos (play), mientras (while)

Grammar: ending of words “ota” and “ote”.

Holiday Activities

On Friday we sent home some information about our fun holiday activities coming up! Online Book Fair

The Nickajack Learning Commons and Nickajack PTA are hosting the Jack’s first online book fair! Our partner, Children’s Bookstore, has over 200,000 titles available! The incredible selection of books, from baby board books to young adult, includes all genres of fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels and books in a series.  Shopping on the site is easy – shop award winning books, books by reading level, books in a series, bargain books, and Best of books.

The fair is open 24/7 and will run until midnight December 15th.  All books are shipped directly to the customer.  Our school will earn 30% of every book purchased – proceeds will benefit our Nickajack Learning Commons and Nickajack PTA

We are going to use the strategy of re-read for reading comprehension.

Verbos (verbs): “nadar (swim), comer (eat), y dormir (sleep)”.

High Frequency Words:  cerca (near), cuando (when), despues (after), hoy (today), pronto (quickly)

Math

Meaning of equal sign in order to determine if an equation is true or false.

Using the relationship between addition and subtraction (knowing that 8+4=12 one knows 12-8=4).

Book Fair

Flyers will be coming home in folders today about our Book Fair taking place next week! Here are some details:

Book Fair Hours

Monday        8:30a.m. – 4:00p.m.

Tuesday       8:30a.m. – 5:00p.m.

Wednesday 8:30a.m. – 5:00p.m.

Thursday     8:30a.m. – 6:00p.m.

Friday          8:30a.m. – 12:00p.m

*We will visit the Book Fair as a class (both homerooms) Monday morning to let the students preview and make a wish list.  You may send in money anytime during the week– please put in a baggie or envelope and label.  You may also take your child to the Book Fair during Friends and Family Lunch if you’d like.

*Gift certificates will be on sale until Wednesday.

  • Nickajack’s annual Friends and Family Luncheon is coming soon. First grade day is November 14th. Our lunch time will change for this event. We will go to lunch from 11:15 am to 11:55 am (tables number 5 and 6). Below is the menu and price for the luncheon. We look forward to seeing you all there.
