Happy Sunday! We have almost been in school for 1 whole month!

Just some reminders & updates on things going on in the classroom:

I sent home a sheet explaining IXL with each student’s username and password. Please if you have any free time, use this website. It is a fantastic resource for Math! We will also be using it this week (as well as the rest of the year) during Math Centers, so the students will know how to use it this upcoming week and can start getting familiar with it. If you have any questions at all on how to use it, please feel free to let me know!

This Wednesday, August 30th, is an early release day. Dismissal will start at 12:20. As always, if there are any transportation changes, please send in a note in your child’s blue folder πŸ™‚

Happy Eclipse Week!

Happy Sunday and night before The Eclipse!

I hope you are all excited. Although we will not be going outside, we will be doing many activities throughout the day to celebrate it. Also, we will be watching it Live Stream in our classroom as well so the students will be seeing it on our SmartBoard! Just a friendly reminder that dismissal will be late tomorrow and we will start dismissing at 3:00 PM for the safety of all students and staff. We are looking forward to an exciting day!

The Family Art Project was sent home around a week ago. We would love to see those turned in by tomorrow, August 21st, but completely understand if you cannot. Just please send it in as soon as possible so we can start hanging them up for everyone to see πŸ™‚

IMPORTANT: I have started and will continue to take pictures of the students working in the classroom as well as take their pictures on special occasion days. I will start to post them here on the blog as well as around the classroom. If you wish to not have your child’s picture shown on the blog and/or in the classroom,Β please write a letter to the principal, Mrs. Tiffany Jackson, stating that you do not want their picture taken and posted. You may send the letter in your child’s blue folder and we will take it where it needs to go. This was noted in the Cobb County folder that was sent home during the first week of school. You do not have to send a letter in if you are okay with their picture in the classroom and/or blog, just if you DO NOT want their pictures posted. Please send the letters in as soon as you can. Thank you for your help in this!

Classroom Updates:

Math: We have been learning numbers 1-10, with emphasis on writing numbers 0-5. We have been sky writing, practicing matching these numbers to match a set, and writing them on a dry erase board to help them practice.

  • We will be doing more practice with these numbers this week as well as practicing counting items in lines and arrays!

Social Studies: We have been talking about the Pledge of Allegiance, the American Flag and the Georgia Flag. We have talked about each of their characteristics, similarities, and differences.

  • This week we will be focusing on maps & globes!

Phonics & Writing: We have had two letters of the week, C & O. We have focused on writing them and the sounds they make. For writing, we have touched on sounding out words to match your picture, labeling, and how to write a sentence.

  • We will have different letters of the week each week, but will continue to work on how to write sentences, sounding out words, and matching your words with the picture.

Reading: We have talked about how to be a Book Lover and expectations for our Reading Workshop. Students have practiced quietly reading a book each day.

  • We will continue to build our stamina for reading and practice expectations for Reading Workshop this week!

We are looking forward to a great week this week. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns!
