Cya, 2017!

2017 is coming to a close. It has been a busy, but very successful past few months here at The Jack! I hope everyone enjoys their Winter Break!

Parents, please remember that school will resume January 4th. I can’t wait to see all of my wonderful students again in 2018!

Warm Wishes,

Mrs. Keyser

November already?!

Wow! It has been a whirlwind adventure so far in my speech and language room! I can’t believe that October is already behind us and we are moving on to November! I love this time of year- the weather gets cooler and the leaves start to change colors… there is so much for us to talk about during sessions! The students have been having a blast working on their communication skills, while learning new vocabulary and concepts through lots of fun, literacy-based units. We have just finished our October/Halloween unit, which included books such as “Wee Witches’ Halloween” by Jerry Smath, “Albert’s Halloween: The Case of the Stolen Pumpkins” by Leslie Tryon, and “Pumpkin Town! (Or, Nothing Is Better and Worse Than Pumpkins)” by Katie McKy. We learned the parts of a pumpkin and talked about different emotions by drawing our own Jack O’Lanterns!

Our next unit will be guided by the book, “By the Light of the Harvest Moon: A Story of the Autumnal Equinox” by Harriet Ziefert. This is the perfect book to describe the changes that we are experiencing during Fall, to talk about the seasons, and to learn some new vocabulary. We will be completing some fun activities to go along with this unit as well- Halloween may be over, but I still have some tricks and treats up my sleeve!

As always, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding our upcoming unit!

Nickajack Elementary School

Hello Nickajack Elementary School Families!

Hello Families!

The 2017-2018 school year has been off to a spectacular start so far here at Nickajack Elementary School! I am so excited to be working with such a talented team of educators to make this year an incredible one for your students!

My name is Marissa Keyser, and I will be your student’s speech-language pathologist this year. Although this is my first year, I have had plenty of experience to prepare me for my time here at Nickajack. I received my undergraduate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!) in 2010, and recently graduated with a graduate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Georgia State University. Throughout my clinical education I have had many enjoyable experiences working with people of all ages with communication disorders, but my favorite experiences have allowed me to work with children, and I am so excited to be working with your child this year!

Nickajack is a very special place, and I am so thankful to be surrounded by such amazing and caring educators. I am so happy to call Nickajack home, and I am so excited to get to know your student this year! Throughout the school year, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

I’m looking forward to making this an amazing school year with you!
