Good Morning & Welcome Back to the week before Winter Break!!

Please remember there is NO SCHOOL all next week!

 

We will be busy this week…& of course Valentine’s Day is this Thursday.  Please bring in your Valentine box or bag to house your goodies & 21  cards or treats for your friends.  We will celebrate after lunch on the 14th.

 

This Friday is our STEM Expo day…

February 15 is STEM Expo Day! The students did a great job putting their puffmobiles together and they are so excited to show them to you!  We want to invite all parents to join us this Friday in the cafeteria from 9:30 to 10:15.

 

A special thank you to Mrs Crawford for being our Mystery Reader this past week.  The students get so excited when parents come in & share!! Thank you all for making that a bright part of our day!!

 

A HUGE CONGRATS to David for having over 200 AR points this year so far!!! This is absolutely incredible!! Great job!!!!

Week of Feb. 4th-8th

Good Morning & Happy Monday!!

I hope you all enjoyed the weekend….what a beautiful one it was!!

 

We sure enjoyed ” Kindness Week ” last week & all the good that came with it!  It was fun having additional mystery readers in reading about ” thinking of others & showing kindness”…Thank you also, Mrs. Forde  for sending in Sprinkle Donuts to go along with “sprinkling kindness”.  

 

This week there will be NO WRITTEN homework- I need your child to focus on planning & bringing in their supplies needed to make their ” puffmobile” for our Stem Expo coming up!  A paper was sent home to plan it out & supplies were suggested to bring in.  I have had only a few bring in up to this point.  Please have fun with this & help your child gather the materials they want to use to create.

 

Homework this week is to bring the paper plan & all supplies needed in to school.  We will be making them at school this Friday.

 

Extra reading of AR would be a great idea as well…since  there is no written homework.

 

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching!  I sent home a list last week with all the students names.  They are free to bring a decorated box or bag they have at home or make at home.  I will have extra supplies for anyone who needs something.

Week of Jan. 28th- Feb. 1st

Good Morning & Welcome to Kindness Week!!! 

Of course we want to show kindness every week…but this week we will be doing many kindness activities throughout the week!

 

Monday (1/28)-Hats off to kindness (wear hats)

Tuesday (1/29)-Being kind is groovy (wear 70s clothes)

Wednesday (1/30)-Kindness Rocks (wear rock star clothes)

Thursday (1/31)-Cougars are Kind (wear Cougar Pride or school colors)

Friday (2/1)-Cheer for Kindness (wear sports clothes)

 

ALSO….coming soon…..

Students will also be working on a project at school over the next few weeks. Friday, February 15 is STEM Expo day and second grade students will be building “puffmobiles” as a review of the energy and motion concepts we studied in quarter 2. We will be building the mobiles in class, but students will need to bring in materials from home. I will be sending home a letter on Monday with more information about suggested supplies as well as a planning guide so that students can start thinking ahead. Thank you for your help!!

PTA is coordinating a collection of Lysol wipes, band-aids, plastic baggies, tissues, air fresheners, hand wipes, etc. for our Enrichment teachers during this sniffling time of the year. Bins will be located throughout the school.

February 4 – 8 -Box Top Collections
We accept Box Tops all year long….but next week our PTA will be counting Box Tops and awarding the grade level with the most!  I have my trimmed Box Tops saved in a drawer…and ready to send in!  Put in a baggie with your child’s grade/teacher.  THANK YOU!  The school earns money from Box Tops!

Kincaid is fortunate to have Ms. Kotarba and Ms. Weitnauer serving our school and community…and loving our kids!  We love them all year long, but next week is a special time to show extra appreciation!

Week of Jan. 21st- 25th

Good Morning & Happy Tuesday!

 

I hope you enjoyed this past weekend & an extra day yesterday.  The children really enjoyed learning about Martin Luther King & the many contributions he made.

Reading– wrap up fables; take a look at fairy tales; compare & contrast versions of stories

 

Writing– continue opinion writing

 

Grammar– adjectives; adding more description in our writing

 

Math- multiple addends; 3 digit number problems; problem solving

 

**A note from our counselor, Mrs. Kotarba:

As part of our “No Place for Hate” program, we are looking forward to participating in the Kindness Challenge from January 28th – February 1st. The students will work together as a class to complete activities to show kindness such as, asking a new friend to play, helping someone, writing a thank you note, or performing a kind act of their own design. Teachers will have daily discussions, read stories, and watch short video clips about showing kindness, inclusion, and respect.

Additionally, we will show kindness in our community by hosting a toiletries drive to benefit The Center for Children and Young Adults AND SafePath Children’s Advocacy Center. With the help of our Student Council, we will be collecting items such as shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, etc. These items will go to children in our community.  A flyer with more information will come home about this.  We will also have some fun by dressing up to the following themes each day.

Week of Jan. 7-11th

Happy New Year to everyone!!!

Welcome Back to school!!!

 

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season!  I wanted to thank you all for the great gift cards that you gave me for Christmas!! They have already been spent!! I enjoyed going to Bath & Body Works.  I also found some neat keepsakes at the Little Red Bird shop to celebrate my recent engagement!! 

 

Be on the lookout for report cards coming home this Friday.  Also, please remind your children to bring any library books back to either turn in or recheck out.  Most everyone did so this morning, but we still have a few that said they forgot their books at home.

 

This Tuesday, we have a school presentation from the Harlem Globetrotters.  Our lunchtime stays the same.  Specials will change from 10:25-10:55.  The presentation is at 1:15.

Week of Dec. 17th-21st

Good Morning!! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! 

We just returned back from a wonderful Christmas Chorus Performance.  It got us all even more in the holiday spirit!!

 

We have many fun things planned for the week & also several schedule changes I wanted to remind you of….

 

There will be NO WRITTEN homework this week. 

Please continue to read nightly & hop on Education Galaxy for great practice online as well. Please also keep the reading going over the winter break!!

 

Tuesday 12/18- is Grinch Day– students may wear green or anything festive to get in the spirit!

 

Wednesday 12/19Holiday Party from 11-12:00- we will eat sack lunch in the room immediately following the party

 

Thurs. 12/20 & Fri. 12/21 are Early Release Days- dismissal is 12:30- our lunchtime both of those days is 10:19-10:49.

Week of Dec. 10th-14th

Good Morning & Happy Monday!

  We will be winding down quarter two this week & about to head into our Winter Break!

 

Please be aware that NEXT week the 20th & 21st are Early Release Days.  Students are dismissed at 12:30.  Also…Our class party is next Wed. the 19th from 11-12:00.  That day we will also be eating in our classroom. Both the 20th & 21st we will be eating a sack lunch in the cafeteria at a different time.  Our lunchtime both days will be 10:19-10:49.  Please be aware of those schedule changes.

 

I want to thank ( in advance ) all those involved in prepping for our holiday party on Wednesday, the 19th.  We are looking forward to that!! Thanks especially to our room mom Mrs. Forde!

Week of Dec. 3-7th

Good Morning & Happy Monday!! I cannot believe we have turned the calendar on December!! I am looking forward to a busy & fun three weeks before we are off on our Winter Break!

 

We have had some great Mystery Readers lately!! Thank you so much to Ben’s Mom,  Evan’s Mom, Ryan’s Mom & Dad, Presley’s Mom, & David’s Mom!! The kids enjoy that surprise so much!!

 

Also…THANK YOU so much for the mittens that have come in for our ” Mitten Tree”.  The kids truly feel proud to donate to those less fortunate.

 

Please remember if your child comes home with a “I forgot my snack note”….send in an extra for next time.  We had quite a few forget today.  Our snack bin is dwindling & we could use some more.

Grammar– plurals; root words ; locating context clues to help bring more meaning

 

Math– continue our multi- step problem solving- ask your child how that is going…I have been very impressed with the hard work & “planning out strategies” I have noted; continue measurement

Book order before the holiday!

Just a friendly reminder that I sent home a book order with some great holiday books.  If you do choose to place an online order…please do so before Dec. 12th.

 

I would like to process it before we get out for break to ensure the books get here before the holiday.
