# Off to a great start!

We made it through our first 2 days and I have to say, they were wonderful! I hope everyone is able to get some well needed rest this weekend.  I have a few reminders and updates below.

*Please remember to fill out the Parent info guide form, clinic card, and green student information sheet for me if you haven’t already done so.

*Over the weekend, the students have been asked come up with 1 or more words to answer the question, “What do you stand for?” The students were given some suggestions such as hard work, creativity, positivity, etc… This will become a bulletin board in the 5th grade hallway.

We had our house sorting yesterday. The house system is a 5th grade incentive program.  Each student belongs to one of 6 houses (Amicas, Integritas, Fidelitas, Viribus, Animo, or Quantum).  They earn points for their house as they show leadership, perseverance, and kindness.  Houses can also lose points, if behavior is the opposite of those things.  Students were given a crest for their agendas on Friday afternoon.  Here’s a way to easily earn a house point! If you’re reading this blog post, write the house you belong to in your agenda (for date 8/5) – down at the bottom blank space.  Show it to me during homeroom for 1 house point.  These could add up quickly…each student to show me their agenda will get a point for their house!  Every few weeks, we will celebrate house points with special events, treats, etc. We hope this will be a fun way to reward good behavior and use of the 7 habits.

TEAM VIRIBUS:

### Next Week:

Science:

• We will be setting up our notebooks on Monday as well as starting our first topic on the Scientific Method. We will be working with the Scientific Method all week with a quiz planned for Friday.

I’m excited to get started with our 5th grade curriculum.

# Welcome to 5th Grade! (8/1)

Good afternoon everyone! It was a fast paced but fun filled day here in 5th grade. We were busy at our whiteboards as well as getting to know the teacher.

Now it is the students’ turn to help me get to know them. Your child is coming home tonight with a small assignment – “You: By the Numbers.” Your child should be coming up with numbers that describe them or things about them. Examples include – the number of pets they have, height, age, how many movies they saw this summer, how many sports they play, etc… They will need this to start working on the final copy tomorrow.

Please make sure to complete the papers from Meet and Greet and return as soon as possible. I am attaching a copy of my welcome letter and student information sheet in the event it was lost. If you have any questions, please let me know. Email is the best way to contact me.
