It is a new school year! I am Kathy O’Rourke and I will be your child’s teacher this year. I’m so excited to have your child in my classroom!
Our class is a designated Read 180 classroom. What is Read 180? It is a rigorous reading program that will help your child become a better reader! To find out more about this program, please visit the tabs above to learn more about it.
I can’t believe it’s almost November! Time sure does fly by! We’ve had a lot going on these past few months. We just finished Parent/Teacher conferences. If you were not able to attend, please contact us so that we can either meet or speak on the phone.
We are working hard in our reading program. We are getting close to finishing our second workshop in Read 180. This particular workshop talked about immigration and told stories of children who were new to either the US or other countries and what their struggles were like.
We just finished our narrative writing pieces and we worked really hard on them! We worked on compelling topic sentences with a great point of view. We also worked on adding details using vivid adjectives and sensory details. We finished our narratives with a creative conclusion.
In Science we worked on Climate and Weather. We learned about the difference between the two. We learned about what tools are used to measure weather, and we looked at weather maps. We are getting ready for a new unit on Force and Motion. Our first topic will be on simple machines. This will be a fun unit! Be on the lookout for a science newsletter as well as a study guide on simple machines.
This upcoming Friday our school will have an October Fall Festival. Please mark your calendars! I hope to see you there!
Also, this upcoming week is also Red Ribbon Week. A flyer went home describing how we will be celebrating each day.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me or Ms. Jackson!
