Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great week and were able to enjoy some of the sunshine and warm weather. We have a busy week ahead of us with Valentine’s Day and the STEM Expo taking place towards the end of the week. here is the game plan as we head into our last week before Winter break!

Hi y’all! I hope you all have had a great week and are staying warm! The kids did such a great job in the classroom this week. As we move into next week, we will be carrying over a few of our activities due to our “snow” day on Tuesday. We have a lot of fun things planned the next two weeks before heading into Winter break.

Weekly Focuses:

Reading: Fairy Tales- comparing and contrasting fairy tales (our focus will be on Goldilocks and the Three Bears, as well as, The Gingerbread Man).

Writing: Continue our opinion writing, “Salty? or Sweet?”. The kids will continue writing an opinion about which is better… salty snacks or sweet treats.

ELA: Mentor Sentences, “A Royal Zookeeper” with a focus of adverbs and adjectives.

Phonics: r-controlled vowels, er/ir/ur

Math: adding two 3-digit numbers using a variety of strategies, solving 2-step word problems.

*We had a lot of fun celebrating Kindness week! The kids participated in a lot of fun activities throughout the week and completed the Kincaid Kindness Challenge. The kids LOVED watching a kindness movie and enjoyed a donut treat for sprinkling kindness throughout the week. Thank you so much to all of you that brought in snacks and treats to support our activities during the week!

*We are preparing to make puff mobiles in STEM Lab! Please begin to save recyclable items for your child to make a puff mobile here at school. Please save and bring in small cardboard boxes, plastic bottle caps, straws, etc. We will begin constructing our puff mobiles during science lab on Friday.

*Valentine’s Day information was sent home today! We will be having our celebration on Thursday, February 14th. We will be making Valentine bags in class, so please do not make or send in boxes from home.

February 4 – 8 – Enrichment Teacher Supply Drive
PTA is coordinating a collection of Lysol wipes, band-aids, plastic baggies, tissues, air fresheners, hand wipes, etc. for our Enrichment teachers during this sniffling time of the year. Bins will be located throughout the school.

February 4 – 8 -Box Top Collections
We accept Box Tops all year long….but next week our PTA will be counting Box Tops and awarding the grade level with the most!  I have my trimmed Box Tops saved in a drawer…and ready to send in!  Put in a baggie with your child’s grade/teacher.  THANK YOU!  The school earns money from Box Tops!

*As part of our “No Place for Hate” program, we are looking forward to participating in the Kindness Challenge from January 28th-February 1st.

The students will work together as a class to complete activities to show kindness such as, asking a new friend to play, helping someone, writing a thank you note, or performing a kind act of their own design. Teachers will have daily discussions, read stories, and watch short video clips about showing kindness, inclusion, and respect.

Additionally, we will show kindness in our community by hosting a toiletries drive to benefit The Center for Children and Young Adults AND SafePath Children’s Advocacy Center. With the help of our Student Council, we will be collecting items such as shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, etc. These items will go to children in our community.  A flyer with more information will come home about this. 

We will also have some fun by dressing up to the following themes each day.

Giving Tree

Kincaid Elementary has put the annual “Giving Tree” in the front lobby of our school. If you or your child would like to donate a toy or clothing item for a child in need, please select a paper ornament from the Giving Tree. Please purchase the item listed on the ornament and place the unwrapped item under the tree by December 14th. All items will be delivered to MUST Ministries for their Toy Shop benefitting needy families in our community. Please contact our school counselors if you have any questions about the Giving Tree.
