Digital Learning – Week of April 13th

Welcome back from Spring Break! This week’s Second Grade Digital Learning Choice Board can be found AT THIS LINK.

On Friday, 4/10, the District announced that we are going to four-day digital school weeks from Monday – Thursday. Friday will be a day for students to catch-up on any previously assigned lessons. Teachers will be able to collaborate and conference with peers, parents and/or students, assess student progress, and prepare future instructional lessons. Can you have students continue to use digital tools to learn on Fridays? Absolutely! Is it required? No, but if working with a structured schedule is better for your child, then please carry on!

One of our top questions has been, “What about placement forms?” If you wish to fill out an OPTIONAL CLASS PLACEMENT FORM, THE NEW DIGITAL LINK IS HERE. If you filled one out previously on paper, you will need to complete again. RISING THIRD GRADE PLACEMENT FORM.

Additionally, if you would like your child to be considered for placement in Mrs. Goldt and Mrs. Mullins class, please complete the 3-2-1 Opt-In Lottery Request for Goldt/Mullins. 3-2-1 LOTTERY REQUEST.

Because this process of not being at school together is going to make placement more challenging, we are only offering a short window for completion. If you choose to complete the optional placement information, please do so by Friday, April 17th.

Have a great week of digital learning and don’t forget to utilize the resources at https://www.smore.com/kj568

Specific Guidelines for Second Grade:

Second grade students should practice math skills and reading using real books and online resources such as RAZ-Kids and MobyMax.

Math – MobyMax
Math assignments for Q4 standards can be found by students in the “Assignments” tab in MobyMax. These skills will be assigned on an ongoing basis throughout the school closure. After assignments are completed, students should go to the green math icon, fact fluency icon, or numbers icon and work through other skill activities.

Fourth quarter standards are primarily a continuation of skills such as fact fluency, using place value strategies to add and subtract numbers to 1,000, and solving one and two step word problems. New skills and standards introduced this quarter are identifying shapes and attributes, partitioning of shapes, and arrays as an introduction to multiplication.

Reading – Real Books and RAZ-Kids

RAZ-Kids: Students are encouraged to read books that are within their assigned range of levels through the online RAZ-Kids reading program. Students are encouraged to read an on-level book and pass that book’s quiz each day.

Students should complete one readers response per week. Details will be posted to teachers’ blogs.
