I hope that everyone was able to enjoy our impromptu break. I know that Smyrna did not see as much snow as I did up in Marietta but I hope you all got a little play time in.
Red folders will be sent home today as there is some time sensitive information for you to look over.
We will move our sort 23 spelling test to next Friday so now everyone should have a head start on studying.
Planet projects for science class were due today. Please check Mrs. Espenshied’s blog for updates in science as well as math.
Our focus in language arts remains narrative writing for the remainder of this grading period. Please remember to practice writing and using our grading rubric with your student. Fun story starts can be found at the link below!
Don’t forget to READ READ READ! Start a chapter book with your student and take turns reading out loud to each other. You will see that hearing you read will help your student with their fluency and fluidity.

Please don’t forget that Monday is our Fire Safety Village field trip. Be sure that your child is dressed warmly in layers including hats, gloves and scarves. It will be cold and we will be outside. If you are providing a lunch please send it in a bag that can be thrown away and is labeled with the student’s name.
Personal narratives are due on Monday. Please go over the rubric (found below) with your student.
Ask your child what it means to be a respectful, responsible, role model!
I hope that you were all able to stay safe and warm over our unexpected “snow break.”
Due to our short week we will not have a spelling test but will have grammar homework each night instead of spelling tic tac toe.
Below is the writing rubric we will be using. Each student received a copy today in order to edit and revise the rough draft of the personal narrative they have been working on in class. Please go over your child’s writing piece alongside the rubric. This piece will need to be “published” on Friday, February 20.
Each student will need to bring their own protractor for math. Please be sure to write their name in permanent marker so that we can be sure they are able to keep track of it for both classwork and homework in math.
Our Fire Safety Village field trip is next week. If you have not yet returned your child’s completed permission slip (front and back) and the F.D. consent form please do so by Friday. Students who have not returned their forms will not be able to attend the trip.
Our class will have a small Valentine’s Day celebration on Friday February 13. If you would like your student to participate please be sure to make a Valentine for every student in our class; you will find a class list below. Students may bring in a box or bag to collect their cards and gifts. They may decorate their “mailbox” with Valentine’s Day themes…don’t forget to put a name on it! We will pass out our cards throughout the day a few students at a time and take the last portion of the day to open cards. You may choose to send candy or a small gift with the cards if you would like but please do not send any other snacks .
