Jonathan Blanchard in the House!

Every year Cobb County send home an envelope asking for a donation for our Performing Arts program.  The money collected is used to fund the second grade field trip to a ballet and the fifth grade field trip to the Atlanta Symphony.  It also comes back to the school to provide for Fine Arts performances here at Pitner.

This year, we were honored to have Jonathan Blanchard come help us take Red Ribbon Week and Anti-Bullying Month out with a bang.  The program itself featured songs detailing the history of R&B, which went perfectly with the messages of respecting ourselves and others.

Not just the students, but the teachers, administrators, the custodians and even the cafeteria workers were enjoying the show!

I have been having a little bit of trouble getting videos to upload to my blog.  (Which is embarrassing because I have already done it, and I can’t remember how I did it exactly….)

BUT – I have posted some videos of 4th and 5th grade on my Twitter feed.  Look up @Pitnermusic and you just might see you or someone you know and love!

Books and Music

I really love this rotation’s first grade lesson, because I get to teach one of my favorite “surprise” songs (Good Night, Sleep Tight) while reading one of my favorite books, Time for Bed by Mem Fox (illustrated by Jane Dyer).  Always one of the students says, “I *love* that book!”

This was one of my favorite go-to bedtime books for my own children, and I’m sure yours would love it, too.  It’s available at the Cobb County Library, and very reasonably priced on Amazon:

While you read it, let your child teach you the song with its “surprise” at the end.
