SEP 17 – SEP 21

BIG CONGRATULATIONS to Orwin Requeno on his brilliant performance at Atlanta Saxophone Day! Orwin and more than a hundred other saxophone players spent this past Saturday at Georgia State University with several guest clinicians, a guest conductor, and saxophone instrument and product vendors that supported the event. The day concluded with a full ensemble performance of music from Candide, West Side Story, and Slava!.

6th & 8th Beginning Band:  Students will be incorporating their first 3 notes into several introductory songs and quarter and eighth note rhythms while reinforcing performance on posture, and hand position. There will be performance assessments on Mary’s Little Lamb at the end of the week. Please make sure you are seeing and hearing your child practice their instruments 20-30 minutes most night of the week and especially on the weekends to support their progress.

7th Intermediate Band:  2nd Period Band will work on Band book exercises 1-11, an d  3rd Period will work on exercises 11-20. Please make sure you are seeing and hearing your child practice 20-30 minutes most nights of the week and especially on the weekends to support their progress.

8th Advanced Band: Students are warming up daily on their GMEA scales, adding to their technique studies from Band Book 2 lines 112-119, and several concert pieces. Please make sure you are seeing and hearing your child practice 20-30 minutes most nights of the week and especially on the weekends to support their progress.

SEP 10 – SEP 14

6th & 8th Beginning Band:  Students will be continuing to work on their first 3 notes, instrument parts and quarter and eighth note rhythms while reinforcing performance on posture, and hand position. There will be performance assessments on Hot Cross Buns at the end of the week. SEP 04 – SEP 07

6th & 8th Beginning Band:  Students will continue learning routines and procedures for Band class, instruments parts, and basic tone production. Students will also learn instrument assembly, posture, and hand position. There will be performance assessments on our first 5 notes at the end of the week. Please make sure you are seeing/hearing your child practice rhythms and note recognition to support their progress.

7th Intermediate Band:  2nd Period Band will begin with the new Essential Elements Band Book 2 starting this week on exercises            1 through 6. 3rd Period will continue in the new band book on exercises 11-12-13-14-15. Please make sure you are seeing and hearing your child practice 20-30 minutes most nights of the week to support their progress.

Students will also learn instrument assembly, posture, and hand position. There will be performance assessments on rhythms later in the week. Please make sure you are seeing/hearing your child practice rhythms and note recognition to support their progress.

7th Intermediate Band:  Students are reviewing warm ups and exercises to improve tone, breath support, and pitch flexibility. 2nd Period Band is currently reviewing exercises from the 6th Grade Band Book, and 3rd Period has moved on to our new band book – Essential Elements Book 2. Please make sure you are seeing/hearing your child practice 20-30 minutes most nights of the week to support their progress.

8th Advanced Band: Students are reviewing posture, tone and rhythm skills using GMEA scales, exercises, and concert music.  Students will be adding new music like War Eagle Fight Song and the Star Spangled Banner for our upcoming performance with South Cobb HS Band on October 12. Please make sure you are seeing/hearing your child practice 20-30 minutes most nights of the week to support their progress.
