These students are heading to the University of Georgia Middle School Music Festival in Athens on Thursday.  Congratulations              Caleigh Williams (8), Jaimon Palmer (8), Madison Jackson (8), Erick      De La Torre (8), Julian Squire (8), and Orwin Requeno (7)! 

6th Grade Band:  Students will be learning a new warm up series where they will concentrate on tone and breath support. In the band book, students will work on pages 8 and 9. Please make sure you are seeing your student practice these most nights of the week and weekend to support their progress.

7th Grade Band:  Students will add a new set of warm ups broadening their range of key signature warm ups. In the band book, students will review lines 20-26 and learn lines 27-30. Please make sure you are seeing/hearing your child practice 20-30 minutes most nights of the week and weekend to support their progress.

8th Grade Band:  Students will add another set of warm ups in a new key and continue chromatic scales exercises. Please make sure you are seeing/hearing your child practice 20-30 minutes most nights of the week and weekend to support their progress.

Let me start with a BIG announcement congratulating 8 of our students that have been invited by The University of Georgia Bands to attend the UGA Middle School Music Festival in Athens in December.  Big applause goes to  Caleigh Williams (8), Jaimon Palmer (8), Madison Jackson (8), Erick De La Torre (8), Julian Squire (8), Princess Baka (8), Adrianna Mason (7), and Orwin Requeno (7). I could not be more proud of this terrific bunch of young musicians!!

6th Grade Band:  Students are making good progress in their band books. They are using Lines 1-14 as a daily warm up. Lines 15 and 20 are for rhythm study, Lines 16,17,18, 21, and 22 are for melodic study, and Line 23 is their first duet. Please make sure you are seeing/hearing your student practice these most nights of the week and weekend to support their progress.

7th Grade Band:  Students will continue individual and group mastery on warm ups, scales, and rhythmic fundamentals and will continue working in the band book lines 20-30. Students also continue to work on concert pieces Secret Agent Plaza de Toros, and My Girl by the Temptations, and this week we add 2 new pieces – Low Rider and Jai Ho. Please make sure you are seeing/hearing your child practice 20-30 minutes most nights of the week and weekend to support their progress.

8th Grade Band: Fifteen Garrett students did a great job last week performing with the South Cobb HS Band. This week students continue working on Plaza de TorosSecret Agent, and My Girl, and also 2 additional pieces – Low Rider and Jai Ho. OCTOBER 9 – OCTOBER 13

6th Grade Band:  Students continue with fundamentals on posture, hand position, embouchure, and tone production while memorizing their first five notes. Students will practice basic performance and ensemble skills on songs like Hot Cross Buns, French Folk Song, and Ode to Joy as well as exercises 14-17 in the band book. Please make sure you are seeing/hearing your student practice these most nights of the week and weekend to support their progress.

7th Grade Band:  Students will continue individual and group mastery on warm ups, scales, and rhythmic fundamentals. They will continue to work on Lines 11-23 in the Essential Elements Book 2, Secret Agent Plaza de Toros, and My Girl by the Temptations. Please make sure you are seeing/hearing your child practice 20-30 minutes most nights of the week and weekend to support their progress.

8th Grade Band: Students are in their final week of preparation on War Eagle Fight Song, the Star Spangled Banner, the South Cobb Alma Mater, and several other songs for their upcoming pre-game performance with South Cobb HS Band on October 13. Students will also continue working on Plaza de TorosSecret Agent, and My Girl. OCTOBER 2 – OCTOBER 6

6th Grade Band:  Students will continue reinforcing posture, hand position, embouchure, and tone production while developing their first five notes. We will practice performing introductory songs based our first five notes as well as multiple lines from pages 6 & 7 in the band book. Please make sure you are seeing/hearing your student practice these fundamentals most nights of the week and weekend to support their progress.

7th Grade Band:  Students will continue individual and group mastery on GMEA scales in preparation for UGA auditions and end of quarter exams. We are working on Lines 11-23 in the Essential Elements Book 2. Students will continue working on Secret Agent by Rob Romeyn, Plaza de Toros, and My Girl by the Temptations.
