Weekly News ~ October 24

Dear Families,

It was great to meet with you during conference week! We’re going to get back on our normal schedule this week, and then end the week with our fun folktales festival! We can’t wait to see the costumes! Remember to send in the mini-sized pumpkin by Friday. Your child will decorate it and bring it home.

We’re back to the HRJ, spelling and weekly homework packet this week. I’ve added some cursive handwriting practice. The packet and HRJ are due always on Friday.

What we’re learning this week:

  • Writing-  Informational writing
  • Grammar: Verbs tenses
  • Reading– Nonfiction, text features & evidence
  • Math– Properties of multiplication (associative, commutative, distributive)
  • Social Studies– Paul Revere poster presentations
  • Science– Fossils

Accelerated Reader – We’re going to have set an expectation of at least 2 AR book quizzes a week for the children. This can be adjusted for the students who are reading longer chapter books. Since nonfiction reading is greatly emphasized, we’ll keep a tub of interesting books in the room to encourage children. The children can take quizzes before school starts, during independent reading time, and anytime normal tasks are completed. 🙂

Have a great week!

Fondly,

Mrs. Pennington
