It seems like we’ve been back in school a month after such a busy 2 weeks. We’ve eased into our routines, taken a variety of pre-assessments, and are beginning to roll out the content of 3rd grade!
This week, we’ll begin sending home the spelling notebook. The children are to choose spelling activities from the menu of choices throughout the week. The aim is to master the quiz on all the spelling words each Friday. If you have a spelling app that is particularly successful for your child, you’re may include it as your child’s weekly practice. Your child should study the spelling words in a way that is effective for his or her’s unique learning style. All homework is due on Friday.
Your child will need to bring in one rock for our science lab on Tuesday. They should find a cool rock, bigger than their thumb but not bigger than the palm of their hand. Their rocks will be returned. Your child should be able to explain where the rock came from.
Please read the information going home on the eclipse. Your child must have a signed permission form to view it. We’re very excited about it! It is a rare and fabulous learning experience—it better not be cloudy! With a serious discussion on eye safety from you and those of us here at the school, I am confident the children will participate safely.
Here’s what we’re working our third week of school:
- Reading: Characters, summarizing
- Writing: Gathering ideas & drafting a narrative
- Math: Addition and subtraction w/in 1000
- Social Studies: Maps, rivers and mountains
- Science: Rocks and Minerals
- Lang. Arts: Spelling, nouns
- Read Aloud: Stone Fox
Information will come home on how to connect to SeeSaw, your child’s online portfolio. You will get a QR code to scan on your phone or tablet. Let me know if you’d rather connect through a computer and I will get you the directions for it. If you connect via your smartphone, you’ll enjoy getting notifications in real time!
Also, we are in need of a basketball, since we have a new Kincaid court. If you’d like to donate one, you can be sure it’ll get lots of use!
Have a good weekend!
