Weekly News ~ April 29

Dear Families,

We’re off to the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville on Monday! Be sure to pack lunches/drinks from home in disposable containers. If your child brings money for the gift shop, store it in a baggie labeled with his/her name. Visit https://boothmuseum.org/ for a preview. 🙂

Happy birthday, Campbell!

A Message from 5th Grade: We all have those good old books we’ve read. We all have finished a series of books that we never pick up again. When these things happen, we tend to leave these books, and then their only purpose is to collect dust. We want to give these books a better purpose, but we don’t know how. That’s where the Kincaid Book Drive comes into play! With Kincaid’s Incredible Book Drive, you can donate your old books that you don’t read anymore. These books will be sorted and added to classroom libraries throughout the school. The Book Drive goes on from April 29th – May 10th.

We’re also collecting donation for MUST Ministries summer lunch program.

The school year is nearing it’s end, but we still have lots left to do! Be on the look out for a fairy tale “teaser” from your child on SeeSaw!

Fondly,

Mrs. P. & Mrs. M.

Weekly News ~ April 22

Dear Families,

Our Monarch butterfly project is culminating with the return of paper butterflies from all over North America. We now will take some time to write short friendly letters to our new pen pals. Ask your child where his or her butterfly is from!

We’re spending time on Earth Day activities this week. We’ll learn what conservation means, address timely problems, and come up with ideas to reduce, reuse and recycle our resources.

The children adjusted well to taking the Milestones on a laptop! We have only 2 more days of testing on Wednesday and Thursday. Thank you to our room mother, Ms. Moriera, for providing test snacks.

The deadline for field trip permission forms is Monday, April 22nd. We are so excited about our big trip to the Booth Museum in Cartersville next Monday!

Here’s our learning plan:

  • Math~Review
  • Reading~Compare/contrast, poetry
  • Writing~Fairy tale adaptations: revision, editing, final copy
  • Science~Heat energy

Have a happy week!

Mrs. P. & Mrs. M.

Weekly News ~ April 15

Dear Families,

Just in time for Earth Day, our monarch butterflies have arrived from classrooms all over North America! We’ll find out who our new pen pals are this week, and learn more about the real Monarch migration.

Here’s our learning plan:

  • Math ~ Elapsed time, volume and mass
  • Reading ~ Nonfiction text strategies
  • Writing ~ Fairy tale adaptation

Milestone testing schedule:

April 16th, 17th, & 18th (Reading/Writing/ELA)
April 24th & April 25th (Math)

Please help your child by making sure he/she gets plenty of solid sleep and eats a big breakfast. We will begin testing at 8:00 a.m. so it is vital your child to be here on time and ready to begin. It’s important for children to avoid testing stress ~ a little encouragement is all that is needed. Thank you for your help!

Fondly,

Mrs. P. & Mrs. M.

Dear Families,

Hope everyone had a good break!

We are in desparate need of tissues! A long cold season depleted our supples, and now the pollen has us sneezing and using lots of tissues. If you would kindly donate a box or two, it’d be greatly appreciated.

Here’s our learning plan:

  • Math ~ Elapsed time, review
  • Reading ~ Various strategies for different types of texts
  • Writing ~ Narrative, adapting fairy tales
  • Social Studies ~ Life in the 13 colonies
  • Other ~ Milestones’ practice

Happy birthday, Molly!

Thanks for all you do!
