Digital Learning

Hi Pirates!! How are all you amazing musicians doing?  You have really hung in there and been proactive through all of this digital learning.  I just want to say how proud I am of each and every one of you!  You are almost to the end so hang in there a little linger and you’ll be sharpening the saw before you know it.  I’ve got two non-digital activities for you this week.  One is an interview and the other is a scavenger hunt.  It doesn’t matter what grade you’re in—you’ll have fun with both of them!!!!

Week of 5/11/2020.  Hey Pirates, check out this free App!  I just finished playing “Mary Had A Little Lab” on a piano on it.  It’s fun because it’s like Dance Revolution.  I played as a guest because I really don’t want to “sign-up” for an account.  Give it a try and then play your song for someone!

Maybe you are feeling artsy these days.  I know I am!  Click here for a link to make your own RAINSTICK

Week of 5/4/2020  Hello from Mrs. Grebe.  I’m glad you’re visiting my blog.  Click on the link below to check out this cute band of kids I found on YouTube playing “Baby Shark” in different musical genres (styles).  How many different styles can you remember?  Which styles did you like the best or the least?  What instrument was your favorite? Be sure to email me with your answers at: Allison.grebe@cobbk12.org. I sure would like to hear from you!       Baby Shark Link

Week of 4/27/2020  Well, how was last week?  Did you learn the new song I posted for you?  If not, you can still find it in last week’s post.  For this week I want you to try a new website.  It has all sorts of Music games.  Here’s what I want you to do.  Go to musicplayonline.com and scroll down until you see Games.  Click on All Games.  Kindergarten – play #12 (loud/quiet) #13 (high/low) & #15 (fast/slow). 1st Grade – play #7 (beat or rhythm) & #14 (rhythm racing).  2nd Grade – play #6 (melody match – level 2) 3rd Grade – play #4 (note name memory). 4th Grade play #6 (up & down) & #4 (note name memory).  5th Grade – Go past games and locate Recorder in the column on the left.  Play #8 “Hot Cross Buns” and then write your own version of the song.  Send me a video of you playing it on your recorder OR send me the music and I’ll send you a video of me playing it for you!

Week of 4-20-2020 Learn a new song this week called, “My Hat it has Three Corners”.  It can be sung in English and in German!! I’ve got two videos for you to learn the song. I recommend learning it in English first and then in German.  Your assignment is to video yourself or your family singing it with you and post it to my grid in flipgrid.  You do not need to download anything. Just click the following link and enter your email.  https://flipgrid.com/fd744ed0

Week of 4-13-2020 Click here to see a Musical Message from Mrs. Grebe.

The weather has been absolutely wonderful lately.  I hope you all are getting outside!  Take a musical nature hike this week and gather some resource items to create and experiment making some notes/rhythms.  Below are some ideas to get you started.  This is what I created with what I found on one of my walks.  If you can’t find anything outside, see if there is anything in your house that you can use (ask your parents).  Under the pictures is some music paper to use.    I would love to see what you come up with, please send pictures of your music to my school email.  Have a great week!

Noteworthy News week of 1/20/20

Happy MLKJr. Day!  I am sooo thankful for his life and for what he stood for—that all men (mankind) are created equal.  I’m honored to celebrate him by having a holiday in honor of his name.  Hopefully, we have all reflected on what this means and that we will actively look for ways to SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND AND THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD this year.  Our small kindnesses to others can have BIG impacts.

Musically speaking, last week was a good week.  The students focused and stayed on track and learned more about musical concepts than they knew before.  This week is going to be different.  I will continue reinforcing concepts on Tuesday & Wednesday, but on Thursday & Friday I will have a sub.  I have left engaging activities for the students to complete while I am gone—who knows, maybe a game or two will be played?!

Chorus:  add Monday, February 24th to the calendar.  The Chorus will preform the Nat’l Anthem prior to the AHS baseball game against NCHS.  The Chorus should meet me at 5:30 pm at the entrance to Allatoona’s baseball center.  We will sing at 5:50 pm.  Parents, an admission fee is required if you and your family attend the game.  Your Chorus child gets in free.

5th – Ukulele playing // 4th – Keyboard playing // 3rd – nonpitched instrument playing // 2nd – rock, Orff instrument & gathering drum playing // 1st – Note reading // K – differentiating between high/low & soft/loud sounds.

Music Notes for the Week of 11-5-18

It’s been a fun week in Music.  And tomorrow, the Chorus will sing for a special Veteran’s Program to honor those who have served our country and sacrificed for us to live in nation of liberty.

Here’s a recap of what has been happening in Music this week: 5th grade – The 5th graders have played in small ensembles where they were challenged to perform contrasting parts.           4th grade – The students have been playing a nice song on the Orff instruments called “November”.  They experimented playing this song in a canon (which is also know as a round).                 3rd grade – We are singing about being thankful.  The students sang this song, performed a dance and played various instruments along to it.  Reading rhythms was the focus.            K  – We are singing, moving and reviewing all the instruments that have been learned about in Music this year:  woodblock, tambourine, rhythm sticks, coconut shells, cowbell and maracas.                                                                                    1st  grade– In first grade, we have been reading rhythms and playing instruments to words that have one sound like the word “tree” or two sounds like the word “pumpkin”.                                  2nd grade – A Pentatonic Scale is a series of notes that consists of five notes.  The 2nd grade students learned to play and sing “Pentatonic Jive”.  They played it many different ways:  in large groups, small groups and solos.  They are sooo smart and eager musicians!

Music 🎶 Notes 📝 for the week 10-27-18

  •  I love ❤️ this season ~ the crisp air, the changing colors of the leaves 🍁 and the ever changing canvas of the sky!  It’s all good!

I’m looking forward to Music 🎼 Class this week.  We’re going to make some season-inspired Music!  Minor sounds, rainstick instruments, spiders 🕷 notes, pumpkins props 🎃 and horse 🐎 compositions are in my plans for making it a week of learning and creating!  Check out my Twitter handle @alli_grebe weekly to catch some Pirates in action.

Notes from Mrs. Grebe – 10/22/18

Honor Chorus was a BIG success!  We had eight 5th graders attend.  They spent the whole day in rehearsal with 320+ other 5th graders from Cobb County & Marietta Schools.  At the end of the day, the singers presented a concert for family, friends, teachers & administrators!  Each year, the students keep getting better and better.  I’d like to send a humongous SHOUT OUT to Donna De Martino for her wonderful assistance with the students throughout the day as the chaperone.

CHORUS WILL RESUME PRACTICE THIS WEEK.

On another “note”, it was good to be back to school after being out 10 days for illness.  The students all came in with care and concern wondering if I was feeling better.  They were really sweet.

Speaking of sweet, Halloween is next week and I hope it stays cool.  I’m looking forward to starting lessons for the 2nd quarter.  I challenge all my students to do their best and to always give 100% at school. The 5th graders will work on reading melodies fluently on the Treble Clef Staff.  The 4th graders will sing a Maori Song from New Zealand while maintaining a challenging stick rhythm.  The 3rd graders will continue to sing in a light voice various song and practice reading rhythms.  The 2nd graders will read rhythms, including a new note:  the half note. The 1st graders will play the glockenspiels to the Itsy Bitsy Spider.  And, the kinders will learn a new instrument this week, as well as play, sing and move!  I look forward to it all!

WOW!  I HAVE MISSED YOU ALL SO MUCH!  FIRST WE HAD FALL BREAK AND THEN, I’VE BEEN OUT THE LAST TWO WEEKS HAVING  & RECOUPERATING FROM AN APPENDECTOMY!  WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT!  IT TOTALLY CAUGHT ME OFF GUARD  BECAUSE I SPENT MY FALL BREAK ON A MISSION TRIP IN GUATEMALA. I THOUGHT I HAD EATEN SOMETHING THERE THAT MADE ME SICK, BUT THANKFULLY, I WENT TO URGENT CARE AND THAT’S WHEN I FOUND OUT ABOUT MY APPENDIX.

I HAVE SOME GREAT PICTURES TO SHOW YOU FROM GUATEMALA. I GOT THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO AN ORPHANAGE & TEACH MUSIC TO THE KIDS THAT LIVE THERE.  THE MUSIC ROOM HAD 2 KEYBOARDS, A FEW GUITARS WITH NOT ALL THE STRINGS & A DRUM SET.

IN THE FOLLOWING PICTURE I WAS TEACHING THE CHILDREN FROM A VILLAGE A SONG WITH ANOTHER LADY. WE HAD A TRANSLATOR TO EXPLAIN THE WORDS OF THE SONG TO THE CHILDREN AND THEN, YOU WILL SEE A VIDEO OF THE CHILDREN TEACHING ME A NEW SONG/GAME!!!

GUATEMALA WAS HOT & POOR, BUT SOOO INCREDIBLY WONDERFUL.  THE PEOPLE WERE VERY FRIENDLY AND WARM AND WHEN LOVE IS SPOKEN, THERE IS NO TRANSLATION NEEDED!

I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING EACH OF YOU AT SCHOOL THIS WEEK–CONFERENCE WEEK.  I LOOK FORWARD TO THE LEARNING, SINGING & PLAYING THAT WE WILL ENJOY TOGETHER.  I’VE MISSED YOU ALL!
