My name is Karen Odell. I am so excited to be one of your child’s kindergarten teachers alongside Mrs. Cutno, this school year! Besides teaching, some of my favorite things include spending quality time with my family, volunteering, traveling and reading.
Born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, I earned a B.A. in Communication from the University of Minnesota, Duluth in 1984. I married my college sweetheart and we relocated to the south in 1987. We live in Cobb County and have three children ages 23, 19 and 15. I received my Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Kennesaw State University University in 1993. I have taught pre-k, kindergartern, first grade, gifted k-5 and 4th grade EIP.
My name is Melissa Radu and together with Mrs. Carmen Monsalve we will be your child’s Spanish teachers. This is my third year teaching at Smyrna Elementary. I was born and raised in Venezuela where I learned English during my school years and where I graduated with a degree in early childhood education.
In 2001, I moved to the USA where I have worked as a kindergarten teacher in Athens, Georgia and as a Spanish teacher in Fulton County. I am certified in Early Childhood education, ESOL and Spanish by the state of Georgia. I am married to a wonderful Romanian and we have one boy that is also in the journey of learning three languages. I love spending time with my family, going to the movies and traveling.
It is an honor to be teaching Spanish in our Dual Language Immersion program at Smyrna Elementary. I now how speaking another language can change your life.
My name is Sra. Monsalve and I work with Sra. Radu as her parapro. I have 10 years working in Cobb County as an ESOL, Special Education and Kindergarten paraprofessional. This year is my third in the Dual Immersion program and every time is an exciting, enriching and unique opportunity to work with your child and help them develop bilingual skills and be successful in our multicultural and global economy society.
I live in Mabelton with my family: my husband Jose and my two children, Andrea 17 and Ricardo 15. We arrived from Venezuela 14 years ago, where I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. I love to spend time with my family, cooking and reading.
My name is Joyious Cutno and I am elated to be working with Karen Odell as your child’s Paraprofessional in the English room. I am originally from Los Angeles, CA and moved to Atlanta, GA with my husband in 2005. Together we have twin daughters that are 9 and a very active 2 year old son that lights up our life.
We have lived, learned and worked in Cobb County for the last 4 years and have enjoyed every minute. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, cooking, crafting and spending time with my family. I pride myself on helping children to develop and maintain a love for learning and growing so I am so pleased to apart of their DLI journey!
