Bones and Bats: 6th Grade Science Academy

Why Do Our Skeletons Have so Many Bones? –  A Science and Art activity from Mystery Science

Student Lesson

We will consider why we have bones and what would happen if we didn’t have so many bones. We will then make see-through “x-ray” art of the bones in our own hands.

Students will then compare their skeletons, particularly the bones of their hands to that of bats, noting similarities and differences.

On day two, we will transition to a ReadWorks article called “Wings in the Dark” that explains some misconceptions about bats. – a class code will be provided. The password for everyone is 1234.

Your will select the article, “Wings in the Dark.”
