Our Day:

Brainteaser: How many words can you make from the letters in Happy Halloween? Congrats to Chase for coming in 1st place with 29 points, 2nd place – Lucas with 25 points and 3rd place – Alex with 24 points. 😊

STEM: Bill Nye Caves video and questions

Divergent Thinking: Max’s Word’s Part 2 – rough draft of story.

Relationship & Connections: Vocab. Review game, Bat Book and final draft of inside cover of Truth About Bats.

Laptop Lounge: Worked on slides 5-8. Thanks to Mrs. Kueven and Mrs. Monsterio for helping us today! 😊

Homework:

  1. Crossword Puzzle & Study for Vocab. Quiz on Tuesday, Nov. 12th.
  2. Get Step 8 signed on Long Range Planner and finish slides 5-8 on PowerPoint. If your child didn’t get their pics for slide 7 done please have them come see me and I will add them in from my flash drive.
  3. Cave Reading – Students don’t have this yet, I will give it to them in the morning – we had a fire drill at the end of the day. SORRY!!
  4. Field Trip next Friday, November 8th be at bus port at 6:45 am, pick up is at 4 pm at bus port. See attached field trip reminders.
  5. Get your Behavior Chart signed.

Our Day:

Brainteaser: Boggle – Congrats to Chance and Harrison for coming in 1st place with 23 points, 2ndΒ  place – Giselle with 19 place, and 3rd Place – Mason with 14 points. 😊

Relationships & Connections: Bat vocabulary with Frayer Diagrams – migration, diurnal, nocturnal, microbat, megabat and ultrasonic. Work on final draft of Front & Back Cover of Book Jacket.

STEM: Bat Homes – read and answer questions

Divergent Thinking: Max’s Words, create your own word collection

Laptop Lounge: Work on Slides 1-4 for PowerPoint presentations.

Homework:

  1. Finish Vocab. Diagrams – migration, diurnal, nocturnal, microbat, megabat and ultrasonic
  2. Finish Slides 1-4 on powerpoint Slides 1-4 if not finished in class

Brainteaser: Boggle – Mae was our winner with 18 points! 😊

Relationships and Connections: Word Squares with sentences and Amelia Flip book.

Evaluative Thinking: We worked on Comparing and Contrasting ourselves with Amelia and a Venn Diagram.

Algebraic Thinking: Number Riddles

STEM: Parts of a plane – we labeled parts of a plane and reviewed pitch, roll and yaw.

Talent Development: We reviewed the 4 parts of creativity (Fluency, Flexibility, Originality and Elaboration) Then we worked on Doodle Art, turning doodles into a picture using our creativity.

Homework:

  1. Finish coloring Amelia Flip Book – we will finish the last page Accomplishments next week in class.
  2. Postcard – I reviewed how to create the postcard with the students and directions are attached to the postcard.
  3. Get your behavior chart signed.
  4. Send in a booster seat on Monday for our field trip.

Second Grade:

Our Day:

Brainteaser: Echolocation – how many words can you create? Congrats to Luca he came in 1st with 39 points, good job to Chance for 2nd place and Katie came in 3rd place. 😊

Relationships and Connections: Bat Vocabulary using Frayer Diagrams – chiroptera, guano, pup, predator, hibernation and mammal . Then we worked on the inside part of our book jacket, important characters – Ralphie, Ms. Frizzle, Ranger Mike and the class, plus our favorite part of the story.

STEM: Echolocation song, echolocation reading and steps.

Divergent Thinking: SCAMPER – learned about how to SCAMPER an object, reviewed FFOE song with the class and the parts of Divergent Thinking.

Homework:

  1. They See with their Ears
  2. Storyboard, slides 5-8 and pictures for slides 5-8. You can skip slide 7 (Picture of your bat) because I have that info. for you.
  3. Get Step 6 signed on Long Range Planner
  4. Get Behavior Chart signed.

Some students need to finish:

STEM: Parts of a plane, 4 forces that affect a plane, 3 controllable movements of a plane

Homework:

  1. Kids Scoop – Amelia Earhart -complete starred parts on the front and back
  2. Finish Final Draft of Book Jacket project. Best handwriting and color the pictures.

Second Grade:

Our Day:

Brainteaser: Pascal’s Bats -looking for patterns on the bats

Algebraic Thinking: Flying Bat Facts – working on subtraction without grouping

Relationships and Connections: Guess the Answers – Read and answer the questions

STEM: WebQuest- we went to the Laptop Lounge to finish our WebQuest, then we discussed all answers as a Β class.

Research: Discussed how to complete a story board and save pictures for Slides 1-4.

R & C: Book Jacket project to wrap up the Truth About Bats. Today we worked on the Front cover (New picture, author and your name as the illustrator )and the Back cover (Summary of the story and how many stars out of 5 you would give it and why.)

Homework:

  1. Finish story board for slides 1-4 and save pictures for slides 1-4 on flash drive. (You need at least 1 picture per slide – name the pictures for the slide where you want to use them in the slide show) Example Title slide pic or Title slide 2.
  2. Get step 5 signed on the Long Range Planner.

Brainteaser: How many words can you make from the letters in Amelia Earhart? Mae won with 9 points! 😊

Algebraic Thinking: 3 number puzzles -we worked on the 3 number puzzles as a group.

Relationships and Connections: To wrap up our book, More than a Flier, we worked on a rough draft of a book jacket project.

STEM: The Longest Flight – First we made paper airplanes, then we flew the planes 3 times and measured them each time we flew them. Then we figured out the longest and shortest flight, then subtracted the distance. We also discussed why they didn’t all fly the same length.

Divergent: Together we wrote a poem about Amelia Earhart, students will type or write their final draft for homework and add illustrations or pictures.

Homework:

  1. Finish Rough Draft of Book Jacket report. All writing parts should be done, The inside cover should be done – the 4 main characters Amelia Earhart, Anita Snook, Fred Noonan and George Putnam with a sentence explaining their part in the story. The back inside cover – describe what part of the story is your important part. The back cover – a summary of the book (5 sentences.) Also, the last sentence should tell how many stars you would give the book out of 5 stars and why.
  2. Final Draft of Amelia Earhart Poem – Either in your best handwriting write the poem or you may type it. Once your done writing the poem illustrate it with color pictures.
