What am I learning today?

• Today I am learning how particles behave in the four states of matter.

What am I going to do today to learn?

• Video clip on states of matter
• Students will complete the independent read on States of Matter.
• S/T will us an interactive ppt on particle movement in the states of matter to discuss and to record important information on their graphic organizer during the lesson.

How will I show that I learned it?

• Your Turn (Distributed Summarizing): Students illustrate the movement of particles in a solid, liquid, and a gas in a diagram on students Notes Sheet (graphic organizer).

HMWK: /will study their graphic organizer on the particle movement for solids, liquids, and gases.

What am I going to do today to learn?

• States of Matter INB activity #1
• States of Matter INB activity #2
• S/T will continue to use an interactive ppt on phase changes to discuss and record important information on their graphic organizer during the lesson.

How am I going to show what I learned?

• On students’ note sheet (graphic organizer), s/identify which box represents a solid, liquid, and gas. Then, s/identify how solids, liquids, and gas particles can lose or gain energy.

What I am learning today?

• I am learning how solids, liquids, and gas particles can lose or gain energy (phase changes).
• I am also learning how to describe how heat is important to phase change. Specifically, how to describe what happens when heat is added or removed from a substance.

What am I going to do today to learn?

• Brain Pop: Phase Changes
• Students are given a phase change INB activity where they will cut out the boxes with arrows. S/cut along the solid lines only. S/pair up matching phase changes. The tips of the arrows should overlap the boxes. S/describe the phase changes underneath the tabs.
• S/are given an organizer to describe the type of phase changes that takes place when heat is added or removed under the flaps.

How am I going to show that I learned it?

• With their table partner, students will create a mnemonic device to help them remember the changes of states.

HMWK: Students study their graphic organizer on the phase changes in the states of matter.

Students will complete the States and Phase Changes venn diagram
