Conferences will be held the week of October 16-20. Students will be released at 12:30pm each day that week. If your child will have a transportation change due to this scheduling, please be sure to send in a hand written note clarifying their dismissal procedures.
Conferences this year will be held with one of your child’s three teachers, not necessarily their homeroom teacher. We divided them up this way to best inform you of your student’s strengths and weaknesses.
Conference scheduling forms will be sent home today, Monday, October 2. Please return these in a timely manner so that teachers can schedule times as efficiently and effectively as possible.
Thank you for all you do! We look forward to meeting with you in a few weeks!
IOWA testing will take place Monday, September 11 through Thursday, September 14. The IOWA tests are norm-referenced tests, which means that your student’s results will show you how they did on the test compared to all the other fifth graders in the nation who took this test at the same time. The IOWA is a basic knowledge test, so there is no need to stress or study over the weekend! Just make sure your student gets a good night’s rest and eats a good breakfast before coming to school. Encourage them to do their best, but to not get frustrated if there are items on the test they do not know. They should use their good test taking skills and skip over any questions they don’t know and come back to them if they have time.
Testing will take place in the morning block. We will have an adjusted schedule for the remainder of the day and week in order to make sure every block gets an equal amount of instruction time in all subjects. Thank you in advance for your flexibility with these schedule changes.
Cobb County Schools has partnered with United Way and other organizations to help send supplies to families in Texas affected by Hurricane Harvey. We will be collecting these items on Monday, September 11 and Tuesday, September 12. Please see the list below to see if there is anything your family can donate to our drive. Thank you in advance for your help and compassion!
Baby products (wipes and diapers)
Feminine hygiene products
First aid items (bandages and Neosporin)
Reusable water bottle
Please return your class shirt order form and payment by THIS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 8. We are looking forward to wearing these on our field trips and for school functions this year! These make a great souvenir for your child’s fifth grade year! Make sure you don’t miss out! =)
Progress reports for Quarter 1 will be coming home TODAY, September 6. Please be sure to review these with your student, and then sign and return them to your student’s homeroom teacher tomorrow. Thank you in advance!
Tomorrow, September 1, will be our first behavior celebration! Students who have earned at least 19 smiley faces on their behavior sheets are invited to bring a junk food snack and watch a movie with us from 12:30-2:00pm. Students who have not met the expectation will be attending study hall to work with a teacher on skills they need to build up. Students were reminded today that a new month starts TOMORROW! If they didn’t earn the reward this month, they can start fresh in the morning! We hope to see many more students in our reward at the end of September! Keep up the hard work!
This Friday, September 1, will be college spirit day in honor of the beginning of college football season! Students are encouraged to wear their favorite college shirt or jersey to celebrate.
Also, we have decided to join together as a Pitner family to help those families who have been affected by Hurricane Harvey. Friday will also be a hat day to raise money that we will donate to the Red Cross and Salvation Army to support rescue and clean-up efforts in Texas. A minimum of $1 donation is required to wear a hat on Friday, but larger donations are always welcome! We hope to use this opportunity to teach all our Pitner students the benefit of thinking about and helping others.
Wednesday, August 30 will be an early release day for CCSD students. Elementary schools will begin dismissal at 12:05pm. Please be sure your student knows how he or she is getting home on this day. Also, be sure to provide the school with a handwritten note if your child’s transportation is changing, on Wednesday or any other school day. Thank you in advance!
This weekend, Pitner received information from the county that the solar eclipse glasses purchase for our students may not be verified by the manufacturer. Therefore, no Pitner students will be allowed outside during the eclipse on Monday.
We will still be dismissing 45 minutes late at 3:00pm, and students will still be excused from school with a note that they were viewing the eclipse with family. Please make the decision that works best for your family.
Thursday folders will be coming home in earnest today. Please be sure to look through all of the papers in the folder, return the signed forms, and remove any other papers from the folder before returning the folders to school tomorrow.
We will be providing eclipse glasses for students who have a signed permission form to view the eclipse on Monday. Students who do not have signed permission slips will be able to view a live stream of the eclipse in the Media Center. We will be outside or viewing the live stream from 2:15-2:45pm. Dismissal will begin at 3:00pm. Also, per CCSD policy, this day will be an EXCUSED ABSENCE with a note that your student was out to view the eclipse with family and friends.
