Dietary Guidelines and Nutrients

  • Determine the functions and sources of each of the six nutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, and water)

  • Create a one-day food plan based on the food guide pyramid and the USDA dietary guidelines

  • Interpret USDA nutritional facts on food labels

  • Explain dietary disorders and health problems associated with nutrient deficiencies and excesses


  • Distinguish between fact, fiction, and opinion about nutrition and discuss how marketing affects our perceptions of the facts
