SS WH 1 : Analyze the origins,structures,and interactions of societies in the ancient world from 3500 BCE/BC to 500 CE/AD

Supplies needed:  color pencils or crayons, notebook 2 inch ( you can share it with other classes), dividers ( see syllabus for how to set up the tabs), notebook paper , markers ( for projects and posters)

Tuesday August 1

  1. Share who would you want to meet?
  2. Discuss themes/concepts in history
  3.  Notes prehistory vs. history   –
  4. BCE/CE timeline skills
  5. Begin excerpt from Clan of a Cave Bear (if time)

Wednesday August 2

  1. Read excerpt from Clan of a Cave Bear and question
  2. Notes over traits of a civilization and Mesopotamia
  3. Read Ch.2 Summary Review Mesopotamian civilizations and complete the Define,Identify, and 1-4 ( all of which are on the back of the handout) finish for homework
  4. Label map of the Fertile Crescent and Mesopotamia – finish for homework

Thursday August 3

1. Check and go Ch.2 Summary Review

2. Locate key areas within Mesopotamia and the Fertile Crescent

3.  Read samples of Hammurabi’s Code of Laws and compare to modern laws

4. Share opinions

5. Read examples from Sumerian Proverbs:  translate the meaning of 15 of the proverbs and illustrate the meaning of one of the pictures

Friday August 4

1. Turn in proverbs and discuss
