Quizlet to Study

One of the best ways to study is with Quizlet. It’s free and very user friendly. Your kids are already on devices and computers, so let’s use that to our advantage.  Quizlet offers a variety of ways to study a set of terms that your kids will love!

I encourage you to have them join my Quizlet class so I can see the study sets they create. Also, they will be able to see their friends’ study sets too and play games to compete. Students can type or even voice in the information.

To join my class click https://quizlet.com/join/jnJrXy4tf .  If students join and create study sets for tests, I give them 5 bonus points  on their tests.  There has to be at least 10 terms put into the set for me to count it.

If they want to study with Quizlet at school, they have to already have their username and password set up by you. I can’t do that for them. Have them write it in their agenda so they remember.  It’s a website and also a FREE app.

I hope this helps you help your kiddos study.

August 12th News

We made through our 1st full week of school! Are your kiddos coming home as exhausted as we are? LOL! As we get used to our new schedules, we ask that you all be patient with us if something isn’t sent home. We promise to do our best. Just remember that all of our sweet angels are vying for our attention and we may “forget something.” because we get distracted. LOL!

News Crew and Safety Patrol Applications were given out last week to students who were interested. Please make sure to turn those in as soon as possible so Mrs. Sherman can create a schedule and get them started. DUE ON AUG. 15th.

Behavior… Now that we have had 8 days of school for students to get used to expectations, we will begin getting pretty firm about following those. Please make sure you check the AIM HIGH card during the week to monitor their behavior.  I’m sure you won’t be shocked, but we are working on students not talking when the teacher is talking, not interrupting the teacher/other students, and staying on task. I’m sure that never happens at home right? LOL!  Try almost 30 kids at a time. (wink wink)

What are we learning this week?

Math – Students caught on very quickly to standard algorithm for multiplication up to a 4 digit by 1 digit number. ( ex… 2345 x 6). We will move on to larger problems like 345 x 62.  They will have a quiz at the end of the week unless I feel they need more time. If so, I’ll move it to the following week. Homework starts this week. THEY MUST SHOW THEIR WORK! It is uploaded on Math Homework Page.

Social Studies –  We will continue learning about the rights citizens have under the Constitution and more specifically Due Process.  Students will also learn about how amendments are created and how they are added to our Constitution.

ELA – Students will begin their 1st unit called “Universal Declaration of Human Rights”. This is a very heavy unit requiring a lot of discussion, thinking, and writing. We will also begin our first narrative piece called “The Best Part of Me”.

August 5th News

WOW! What an awesome first 2 days of school. We’ve worked on getting settle in, team building, and getting the jitters out. 😉

WHAT’S IN STORE FOR THIS WEEK?

All students will have their agendas and AIM High behavior card.  DO NOT sign AIM  High card until the end of the week. 😉 Anything they need to write in the agenda is on our board each morning. It’s the first thing they should do when they come in.  Because the year is just getting started, you may not see much, but we will get everyone in a routine with reminders through REMIND text as well.

If you signed up to be a Room Mom you should hear from PTSA soon. 🙂 Thank you so much for signing up!

HOMEWORK: Spelling/vocab homework will be given out this week. Math homework will start August 12th (We want to go over expectations of that first and teach a little content before it comes home.)

Math – Our first standard will be multi-digit multiplication using standard algorithm (The way we all learned it when we were kids). We will start by connecting what they did last year to what they will do this year. Sooooo knowing those facts are SUPER important. We will set up their math journals as well. There will most likely be a graded assignment on Friday over this standard. Because it is so early in the year they can use whatever strategy they are comfortable with. Students will take the Math Inventory on the computer this week as well. This is not something they study for… We do it 3x a year to track growth. They will also be given an informal assessment on their multiplication facts so I can see what they know. This is not “timed”.

Social Studies – We begin with our Citizenship/Govt unit. This starts with discussing rights/responsibilities and will move towards the Bill of Rights and the Due Process of Law that protects citizens’ rights.

ELA – Spelling homework starts this week and focuses on Greek/Latin roots. Students will be introduced to the 20 book challenge.

Who’s ready for 2019-2020?

Raise your hand if you are ready to be a 5th grader? Can you believe it’s really happening? We are super excited to get this year started!!! Imagine diving into learning in a way that creates lasting connections and fun at the same time.  That is what our goal is each time you read a novel, learn history, write a story, learn new math skills, and get hands-on with science!  We love to laugh and we love to be serious too… so get ready!

We can’t wait to meet each of you on July 30th at Sneak-a-Peek/Open House.  Check ParentVue to see if we are your child’s 5th grade teachers. Post cards will not be mailed out this year. 😉 Mark your calendars for 8:00-9:00 for 5th grade.  The Open House portion will start promptly at 8:30.

Have you heard of Cobb’s new “Here Comes The Bus” tracking app? Download this app! Through this app, you will know exactly when it’s time to catch the bus and where the bus is.  It will tell you if your child got on the bus, off at the right stop, and when they exit the bus.

Next Year Sneak a Peek

FYI… for those that have younger children that will attend Frey next year, there is a Sneak -a- Peek change for 2019-2020.

We will NOT be sending out the POSTCARDS in the summer to let you know who their teacher is. You will NEED to login to your ParentVue account to view this information.  We encourage ALL parents to make sure they have their account activated. If you do not, you can pick up your activation code in the front office.
