Thank you for sending in all the supplies for the STEM project!! I think we have plenty of things to build our cars.

Our learning focus:          

Reading- This week we will begin studying Fables.  The class will read various fables from different countries. We will discuss the origin, character traits, and the moral of the fable.

Social Studi.es-A study guide will come home on Monday.  The children will be tested over Dr. King on Wednesday. We will begin studying Jackie Robinson on Thursday.

Spelling/Phonics: “or” words. Spelling words will come home again on Monday with homework.

Grammar: Verbs

Writing: Opinion writing –Not Norman-is a cute story about a goldfish. What would be your choice of pet and why???

Math-For the next couple of weeks, we will add and subtract 3 and 4 digit numbers.  We will continue to work on 2 step word problems.

What else is going on?

  • I forgot to send home Blast Off again so we will complete it in class.
  • I need 2 parent volunteers for Science Lab on Thursday, January 25 from 9:30-10:15 and Thursday, February 8 from 9:30-10:15. If you are interested please email me. Thanks!
  • Please send your child to school with a coat!! We try to go outside for a little bit each day.
  • PTA glove and mitten drive will start this week.

Math-Making numbers – We will review making numbers using base 10 blocks, words, expanded form, and place value. We will also compare and order numbers as well as skip counting.

December 18-20

Important:  Parents please send in any of these material you have at home: small cardboard boxes , flat pieces of cardboard, drink carton, paper cup, toilet paper tube, plastic water bottle, popsicle sticks, pipe cleaners. We will use these materials for our STEM project after the holidays.

Our classroom holiday party will be taking place on Monday from 11-12. Thank you in advance for all your help and support with this! We will be participating in the Sing-A-Long on Tuesday morning and will be having a second grade math challenge taking place on Wednesday morning. Tuesday and Wednesday are EARLY RELEASE so our lunch and specials will change,

Reading- This week we will begin our Jan Brett study.  Throughout the week we will read different stories written by Jan Brett and work on different activities that pertain to the story.

Social Studies-We will review all 3 Georgia heroes: James Oglethorpe, Mary Musgrove, and Tomochichi.

Spelling/Phonics: No spelling this week.

Grammar: Review capital letters, contractions, and possessive nouns.

Writing:  The children will write their final informational writing on our 3 Georgia heroes.

Math– Review word problems, adding and subtracting with regrouping, making numbers, and skip counting.

Reading- We will continue working with poetry learning about rhyming, repetition, and alliteration.

Social Studies- This week we will read and learn about Tomochichi. He worked together with Mary Musgrove and James Oglethorpe in founding of Georgia. This week we will have a test over him on Friday.  Vocabulary words are on the bottom half of the spelling list. Please help your child with those words.

Spelling/Phonics: Prefixes. Words and homework will come home on Monday.

Grammar: Prefixes

Writing:  This week we will create a poster about Mary Musgrove. Your child is welcome to print off pictures of Mary at home and bring them to school for their poster.

Math– We will continue working on 2 step word problems.  Our rotation will consist of MobyMax, word problems, and journals. The children will have homework on Tuesday and Thursday.

Math– We will work on 2 step word problems.  The children will review skip counting and making numbers using expanded form, base 10 blocks, and words.  This week we will working on our Moby Max assignments during math rotation.

November 6-10

Don’t forget we do not have school on Tuesday.

As a class, we are working on following direction.  Our class has had problems in their enrichment classes, Science Lab, and during Library lessons following directions from other teachers. Please encourage your children to respect all teachers and follow their directions so they are able to enjoy and learn from other classes.

Our learning focus:          

Reading/Social Studies- This week we will read and learn about Sequoyah. He was a Cherokee Indian who lived in Georgia and created the Cherokee alphabet. The children will still be responsible for reading 2 AR books this week.

Spelling/Phonics: We will not have spelling this week because of the short week.

Grammar: Pronouns

Math– We will continue to practice addition and subtraction with and without regrouping, Measurement will be introduced.
