I am so proud of 3 of our classmates Elijah, Annie, and Finley for participating in the Science Fair.  Finley is moving on to the District Science Fair on Saturday.  Good luck Finley!!!!

Our learning focus:

Reading- In Reading Workshop we will discuss Characters Point of View.  The True Story of the Three Little Pigs is a great place to begin!! All library books are due Friday so please help your child to remember to turn them in.

Writing: We are in the editing and publishing stages of Sweet vs Salty.

Mentor Sentences– Adjectives

Spelling/Phonics- Review of all r-controlled vowels patterns.

Math-Subtracting 2- 3-digit numbers using strategies and 2 step word problems.

What else is going on?

  • Blast off will come home on Monday. Please return 2/15.
  • The list of class names was sent home on the back of the February calendar, so the children can work on their Valentines. The children are welcome to bring a Valentines box that they have made at home. I will have white bags for the kids to decorate if they don’t want to make a box at home.
  • Please join us in our annual STEM DAY on Friday, 2/15. We will test out our puff mobiles in the cafeteria from 8:30-9:15.
  • Guidance lesson on Monday.

Happy Super Bowl!!!! I hope all of you enjoyed the beautiful weather on Saturday. 

Thank you so much for the delicious donuts and treats that were sent in last week!!! I hope the kindness stays alive in our class!!

Our learning focus:

Reading- In Reading Workshop we will read and compare Fairy Tales.  This week we will read The Gingerbread Man and compare with other versions.

Writing: We will complete our opinion writing on Sweet or Salty.

Spelling/Phonics- r-controlled vowels er/ir/ur is our focus again this week. Words and homework will come home tomorrow.

Math-Adding 2- 3-digit numbers using strategies and 2 step word problems.

Social Studies-This will be our last week on Jackie Robinson. The study guide will come home tomorrow for our test on Friday.

What else is going on?

  • Blast off came home on Friday. Please return 2/8.
  • Science lab on Friday so please send in supplies and plan by Friday.
  • Send in your box tops.

Reading- In Reading Workshop we will read and compare Fairy Tales.  This week we will read Little Red Riding Hood and compare with other versions.  We will also read kindness books and compete activities about kindness.

Writing: Our second opinion writing will begin tomorrow-Sweet or Salty??

Spelling/Phonics- New words with r-controlled vowels er/ir/ur.  Words and homework will come home tomorrow.

Math-Adding 2- 3 digit numbers using strategies.

Enjoy your 3 day weekend!!

Our learning focus:

Reading- In Reading Workshop we will read and compare Fairy Tales.  We will begin with The Three Little Pigs.

Writing: Revising and Publishing our opinion writing using the book Hey, Hey Little Ant.

Spelling/Phonics- Review r-controlled vowels ar/or.  We will have our test on or words on Wednesday.

Math-Reviewing adding 3 and 4 2 digit numbers; comparing 3 and 4 digit numbers and 2 step word problems

Social Studies-Martin Luther King- Test on Friday.  The study guide will come home on Tuesday.

What else is going on?

  • Blast off will be completed in class.
  • Please send white report card envelope back to school.
  • Library lesson on Wednesday.
  • Guidance on Tuesday.
  • Science lab on Friday.
  • Snowball Throw on Friday. Bring your 2 dollars.
  • Martin Luther King holiday on January 21 so there is no school.
  • As part of our “No Place for Hate” program, we are looking forward to participating in the Kindness Challenge from January 28th-February 1st.

The students will work together as a class to complete activities to show kindness such as, asking a new friend to play, helping someone, writing a thank you note, or performing a kind act of their own design. Teachers will have daily discussions, read stories, and watch short video clips about showing kindness, inclusion, and respect.

Additionally, we will show kindness in our community by hosting a toiletries drive to benefit The Center for Children and Young Adults AND SafePath Children’s Advocacy Center. With the help of our Student Council, we will be collecting items such as shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, etc. These items will go to children in our community.  A flyer with more information will come home about this. 

We will also have some fun by dressing up to the following themes each day.

It was fun coming back to school and hearing about every ones break.  We have a busy 2nd week in 2019!

Our learning focus:

Reading- In Reading Workshop we will read and compare fables using a Venn diagram. We went to the library on Friday and most children checked out books. We go to the library every Friday so help your child to remember to remember their books. In reading workshop the children have assignments that they need to complete throughout the week.  One of their assignments is to read and take 2 AR test. Many children read their books at home and are ready to take their test. Thank you for reading at night!

Writing: Opinion writing using the book  Hey Little Ant.

Spelling/Phonics- r-controlled vowels will be our focus for the next couple of weeks. Monday the words will come home on Monday along with homework.  Study for spelling test on Friday.

Math-Adding 3 and 4 two digit numbers using a number line, expanded form, and algorithm.    Homework on Tuesday and Thursday.

Social Studies- Martin Luther King- Test on Friday.  The study guide will come home on Tuesday.

What else is going on?

  • Blast off was sent home Friday and needs to be returned Friday.
  • Please send white report card envelope back to school.
  • Library check out on Friday plus a lesson.
  • Martin Luther King holiday on January 21 so there is no school.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! I hope everyone had a wonderful break.  Thank you again for the gift certificate and all the presents.  I am truly blessed.

A big THANK YOU to our moms for the holiday party! It was a big success!

Our learning focus:

Reading- In Reading Workshop we will read and learn about Fables. We will learn about the characteristics, origin, and the moral of varies fables.

Grammar:  Verbs

Writing: Our New Year’s Goals for learning and begin our opinion writing.

Spelling/Phonics- r-controlled vowels will be our focus for the next couple of weeks. Monday the words will come home on Monday along with homework.  Study for spelling test on Friday.

Math-Skip counting by 5 and 10 starting with numbers over 100. There will be homework on Tuesday and Thursday night.                                                                                                                                                                                 

Social Studies- Martin Luther King

What else is going on?

  • Blast off will be completed in class.
  • Science Lab on Friday.

Last week before the Holiday Break and we are SO EXCITED!!!!

Our learning focus:

Reading- In Reading Workshop we will continue to work on our poetry unit adding some Jan Brett stories and activities.

Grammar:  Review of grammar skills.

Writing: Holiday activities.

Spelling/Phonics- No spelling this week.

Math- Measurement test along with making our Gingerbread House and other fun activities.

Social Studies- Review of all Georgia Heroes.

What else is going on?

  • Chorus Show on Monday.
  • Grinch Day on Tuesday so wear your green.
  • Holiday Party December 19 from 11-12.
  • Thursday and Friday are early release day. Our lunch schedule will change.

Our learning focus:

Reading- In Reading Workshop we will begin our study of poetry.  Rhyming, alliteration, and repetition in poems are our topics this week. Our class will be making an alliteration class book.  The children have done a wonderful job of reading and taking AR test.

Grammar:  Contractions and possessive nouns and knowing the difference.

Writing: Mary Musgrove poster.

Spelling/Phonics- oo/long u sound.  There will be a test on Friday with homework on Monday.

Math- Telling Time

Social Studies- Tomochichi

  • Blast Off will be completed in class.

I hope everyone had a productive and somewhat relaxing weekend.  It is a busy time of year! Please remind your child that we need to continue to do our best in school and follow the rules!  Thanks for your help.

Our learning focus:

Reading- In Reading Workshop we will talk about making connections between a series of historical events, scientific ideas or concepts, and steps in a text. This standard is using nonfiction books which is our focus this 9 weeks.

Grammar:  Contractions and possessive nouns and knowing the difference.

Writing: The class will work on their final copies of their Creek and Cherokee writing.  We will then begin making informational posters on Mary Musgrove.

Spelling/Phonics- oo sound.  There will be a test on Friday with homework on Monday.

Math- Measurement and word problems with measurement.

Social Studies- Mary Musgrove

Thank you Kelly and Annie for the birthday treats!!  We were so excited to go outside early on Friday that we forgot to celebrate Annie. We want forget on Monday!!!! Happy Birthday to all the November birthdays!!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I am so thankful for the wonderful children I teach every day!

Our learning focus:

Reading- In Reading Workshop we will continue working on main idea and supporting details. We will read about autumn and other informational books in guided reading to practice main idea and details. We will continue to read books and take AR test.

Grammar:  Contractions

Writing: Creek and Cherokee Indians

Spelling/Phonics- Contractions Unit for spelling and continue to review ou and au sounds. Spelling list and homework will come home on Monday.

Math- Measurement will begin along with one and two step word problems. Homework on Tuesday.

Social Studies- James Oglethorpe- Test on Friday A study guide will come home on Tuesday or Wednesday.

What else is going on?

  • Kincaid Elementary has put the annual “Giving Tree” in the front lobby.
    If you or your child would like to donate a toy or clothing item for a child in need, please select a paper ornament from the Giving Tree. Please purchase the item listed on the ornament and place the unwrapped item under the tree by December 14th.
