Rain, Rain, Go Away !!!

Our learning focus:

Reading- In Reading Workshop we will begin our study of poetry.  Rhyming, alliteration, and repetition in poems are our topics this week. Our class will be making an alliteration class book.  The children have done a wonderful job of reading and taking AR test.

Grammar:  Contractions and possessive nouns and knowing the difference.

Writing: Mary Musgrove poster.

Spelling/Phonics- oo/long u sound.  There will be a test on Friday with homework on Monday.

Math- Telling Time

Social Studies- Tomochichi

What else is going on?

  • Blast Off will be completed in class.
  • Read and take AR test.
  • Guidance on Monday.
  • Holiday Party December 19 from 11-12.
  • Last week for clubs.

I hope everyone had a productive and somewhat relaxing weekend.  It is a busy time of year! Please remind your child that we need to continue to do our best in school and follow the rules!  Thanks for your help.

Our learning focus:

Reading- In Reading Workshop we will talk about making connections between a series of historical events, scientific ideas or concepts, and steps in a text. This standard is using nonfiction books which is our focus this 9 weeks.

Grammar:  Contractions and possessive nouns and knowing the difference.

Writing: The class will work on their final copies of their Creek and Cherokee writing.  We will then begin making informational posters on Mary Musgrove.

Spelling/Phonics- oo sound.  There will be a test on Friday with homework on Monday.

Math- Measurement and word problems with measurement.

Social Studies- Mary Musgrove

Thank you Kelly and Annie for the birthday treats!!  We were so excited to go outside early on Friday that we forgot to celebrate Annie. We want forget on Monday!!!! Happy Birthday to all the November birthdays!!

What else is going on?

  • Blast Off due on Friday.
  • Read and take AR test.
  • Health Wise will come on Wednesday and teach a lesson.
  • On Friday, our specials will be 1:20-2:05.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I am so thankful for the wonderful children I teach every day!

Our learning focus:

Reading- In Reading Workshop we will continue working on main idea and supporting details. We will read about autumn and other informational books in guided reading to practice main idea and details. We will continue to read books and take AR test.

Grammar:  Contractions

Writing: Creek and Cherokee Indians

Spelling/Phonics- Contractions Unit for spelling and continue to review ou and au sounds. Spelling list and homework will come home on Monday.

Math- Measurement will begin along with one and two step word problems. Homework on Tuesday.

Social Studies- James Oglethorpe- Test on Friday A study guide will come home on Tuesday or Wednesday.

What else is going on?

  • Blast Off will be complete in class
  •  Tuesday is Student Banking
  • Thursday the School Store is Open in the AM
  • Thursday is a 6:30 PTA Meeting & 3rd Grade Performance “The Grinch”
  • Friday is Foundation Friday Pajama Day – bring $2
  • Friday is a Coffee Chat with the Principal at 8:00am in the Media Center
  • Kincaid Elementary has put the annual “Giving Tree” in the front lobby.
    If you or your child would like to donate a toy or clothing item for a child in need, please select a paper ornament from the Giving Tree. Please purchase the item listed on the ornament and place the unwrapped item under the tree by December 14th. All items will be delivered to MUST Ministries for their Toy Shop benefiting needy families in our community. Please contact our school counselors if you have any questions about the Giving Tree. Our learning focus:

Reading- In Reading Workshop we will continue working on main idea and supporting details. We will also read about Sequoyah who invented the Cherokee alphabet.

Grammar:  Contractions

Writing: We are thankful for…….

Spelling/Phonics- ou and ow. There will be a test on Friday with homework on Monday.

Math- Review our addition and subtraction strategies, one and two step word problems, and take our test on Thursday and Friday.

Science- Creek and Cherokee Indians

What else is going on?

  • Guidance on Monday.
  • Star lab on Tuesday.
  • 2 AR books by Friday.
  • Blast Off is due Friday.
  • We will eat in our room on Thursday.

What a GREAT WEEK!  The children had a wonderful time at the Fire Safety Village. We celebrated 2 birthdays and enjoyed our Fall Treats!!

Our learning focus:

Reading- In Reading Workshop we will work on main idea and supporting details. Keep reading and taking AR test.  We went to the library on Friday so most children should have books.  The children are welcome to go to the library when it is open including each morning before school.

Grammar:  This week we will review possessive nouns and reflexive pronouns.

Writing: Our trip to the Fire Safety Village will be our topic.

Spelling/Phonics- oi and oy. There will be a test on Friday with homework on Monday.

Math- Subtraction will be our focus this week.  We will learn various strategies to subtract 2 digit numbers.

Science- Stars

What else is going on?

  • Science lab on Friday.
  • 2 AR books by Friday.
  • Blast Off is due Friday.
  • No School on Tuesday due to the election.

I am excited to be back at school on Monday.  I had a wonderful opportunity to go visit my youngest some in South Florida and I took advantage of it. The trip was so nice!!

Our learning focus:

Reading- In Reading Workshop we will continue to work on Author’s Point. Homework will come home on Wednesday.

Grammar:  We will read Scaredy Squirrel in Mentor Sentences and continue working with possessive nouns.

Writing: This week we will write about our trip to the Fire Safety Village.

Spelling/Phonics- Unit 7 – long i vowel patterns. Homework will come home Monday night and there will be a test on Friday.

Math- Subtraction will be our focus this week.  We will learn various strategies to subtract 2 digit numbers.

Science- Finish up Push and pulls and move into stars.

What else is going on?

  • Our wonderful secretary Sue Ambrose is retiring on Wednesday. We will miss her so much!!
  • Blast Off went home Friday.
  • Clubs this week.
  • Continue to have your child read and take AR test.
  • Don’t forget about your Pumpkin book report!! Due October 29.
  • We will visit the Fire Safety Village on Tuesday. Please wear tennis shoes and comfortable clothes because we will be crawling and rolling on the ground.  Don’t forget your lunch needs to be in a paper sack.  Nothing can be brought back so please put drinks in a throw away container.

Now I know why I have such wonderful children because they have wonderful parents!! Thank you for coming to conferences last week.

Our learning focus:

Reading- In Reading Workshop we will introduce and work on Author’s Point. This standard is about what the author wants the reader to know.

Grammar:  We will read Skippyjon Jones in Mentor Sentences and begin working with possessive nouns.

Writing: This week we will continue working on How To paragraphs and write about carving a pumpkin.

Spelling/Phonics- Unit 6 – long e vowel patterns. Homework will come home Monday night and there will be a test on Friday.

Math- Addition and Subtraction with regrouping will continue to be our focus.  This week we will add and subtract using the number line and base ten blocks. Homework will come home on Tuesday and Thursday in math.

Science-Push and pulls

Our learning focus:

Reading- In Reading Workshop we will continue our study on Informational text. The children will come home with a Pumpkin Book report that will be due the week of October 29.

Grammar:  We will continue with our Mentor Sentences this week.  The class will listen to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs on YouTube. Our focus will be on pronouns.

Writing: This week we will work on How To paragraphs.

Spelling/Phonics- Unit 5 – long o vowel words will continue to be our focus and there will be a test on Friday.

Math- Addition and Subtraction with regrouping will be our focus.  The children will learn a variety of strategies to master this standard-adding on a 100 chart, number line, expanded form, and base 10 blocks.

Science-Push and pulls will be introduced.

The book fair is open every morning and afternoon during conferences.

What else is going on?

  • Blast Off came home on Friday and can be returned any time before or on next Friday.
  • Early Release is all week. There will be no clubs.

Reading- In Reading Workshop we will begin our study on Informational text.

Grammar:  This week we will continue to review common and proper nouns, plural nouns, and collective nouns.

Writing: Our SCARY stories will be completed Monday and the children will select a topic to write their final narrative for this 9 weeks.

Spelling/Phonics- Unit 5 – long o vowel words.  The words will come home on Monday along with homework.  Practice your words throughout the week.

Math- On Monday and Tuesday we will work complete our unit on money.  We will take our end of 9 week test on Wednesday.

Science- Our Matter test will be Thursday.  The study guide will come home on Monday or Tuesday.

I hope everyone had a wonderful fall break!!

Our learning focus:

Reading- In Reading Workshop we will review asking and answering question, beginning, middle, and end, and also character problems and solutions. Great job on AR!! Keep reading and taking test.

Grammar:  This week we will also review common and proper nouns, plural nouns, and collective nouns.

Writing: A time when I was scared is our topic.  The children will continue to work on their rough drafts.

Spelling/Phonics- Unit 4 – long a vowel words.  The words will come home on Monday along with homework.  Practice your words throughout the week.

Math- On Monday and Tuesday we will work on place value. The remainder of the week will be spent on Money.  There will be homework on Tuesday and Thursday. Blast Off will be completed in class this week and come home again on Friday.

Science- Matter is our topic.  We have worked on Matter in the science lab and will continue this topic for the next 2 weeks.

What else is going on?
