Monday, September 10

Opener: Review chart for “Race Politics” and the excerpt from Always Running.

Work Session:

  1. Review CEI format and paragraph structure.
  2. Compose a CEI response (argument: which genre more effectively portrays the incident and its significance in Rodriguez’s life; OR informative: compare the way each genre conveys the claim).
  3. IAN: Review the memoir you composed from the beginning of the class and turn it into a poem (enter the “great conversation”).

Closer: IR: Complete reading log for independent reading; book pass–read each other’s books for 5-10 minutes and log post-it summary +/-.

  2. Read “Fiddler Jones” and compare with “George Gray.” (graphic organizer, claim statement).

Opener: Fill in types of evidence chart and complete highlighting instructions.

  1. Read/analyze “When I Am Asked” and “Constantly Risking Absurdity.”

Opener: Analyze “l(a)” by e.e.cummings.

Work Session:

  1. Complete a word pool with your group.
  2. View images and compose a poem based on the image. Use words from the word pool.
