F 5/3: Research paper due to Turnitin.com. Please drop off a hard copy with signed integrity page before the senior picnic.

W 5/8: AP Exam begins at 8:00 a.m. at Due West United Methodist. Please arrive at 7:30 a.m.

M 5/13: Film director projects due.

W 5/15: ZINC 400+ words due.

 

Monday, April 29

Opener: Review research paper requirements (individual revision, group research, individual reflection). Introduce film director project.

Work Session:

  1. MCM: Complete a prose and poetry passage; collaborate with peers to review strategies.

Closer: View a film sample from an Oscar-winning director.

Homework: Research paper due Friday; AP Exam next Wednesday; film director projects due May 13; ZINC due May 15.

 

Tuesday, April 30

Opener: Review symbols in literature; revisit weather chapter in How to Read Literature Like a Professor.

Work Session:

  1. View the clips from Bridges of Madison County  and The Shawshank Redemption; analyze the impact of weather on setting and characterization.
  2. Graffiti notes analyzing prose excerpts: “The Storm”, :The Story of an Hour”, the opening chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird; L’etranger, In the Lake of the Woods, Snow Falling on Cedars.

Closer: Prepare two novel cards for the exam (major characters, plot elements, tone, shifts, author’s style, motifs & symbols, and a claim statement) One SHOULD be your EPCOT novel.

Homework: Research paper due Friday; AP Exam next Wednesday; film director projects due May 13; ZINC due May 15.

 

Wednesday, May 1

Opener: Review FRQ rubric for prose essasys.

Work Session:

  1. Compose a response to the prose FRQ.

Closer: Self-assess according to the rubric.

Homework: Research paper due Friday; AP Exam next Wednesday; film director projects due May 13; ZINC due May 15.

 

Thursday, May 2

Opener: Review FRQ rubric for poetry essays.

Work Session:

  1. Complete planning for poetry FRQs (speed dating).

Closer: Polish research papers.

Homework: Research paper due tomorrow; AP Exam next Wednesday; film director projects due May 13; ZINC due May 15.

 

Friday, May 3–Senior Picnic during class.

Homework: AP Exam next Wednesday; film director projects due May 13; ZINC due May 15.
