2nd Semester Spelling and Vocabulary:

All students will have the same list from here on out. In addition to having to spell the word, they must also know the meaning of the words given. Students will still be tested bi-weekly (every other Friday).

Integrated Spelling and Vocabulary Week Twenty-one Rule: Relative Adverbs, Relative Pronouns, and Reading Content Words: A relative adverb is an adverb that introduces a relative cause. A relative pronoun links and introduces a relative clause to another part of the sentence.

Vocabulary
1.theme- n. a central idea in a piece of writing or other piece of work
2.evidence- n. facts or information indicating whether a belief is true or valid
3.fiction- n. belief or literature that is false or imaginary
4.nonfiction- n. writing that is based on fact, real events, or real people
5.simile- n. a figure of speech that compares using the words like or as: ex: James is cool as a cat!
6.metaphor- n. a figure of speech in which you state that one thing is something else: Her teeth are shiny pearls.
7.introduction- n. the action of introducing something
8.conclusion- n. the end or finish of an event or process

1.unicorn- n. a mythical animal represented as a horse with one horn

5.bifocals- n. a pair of eyeglasses with two parts

9.quadrilateral- n. a figure with four sides
10.quadriceps- n. a large muscle in the front of the thigh split into four portions

Vocabulary
1.speeches- n. the expression or ability to express thoughts and feelings through voice
2.crouch- v. a position where the knees are bent and the upper body is brought forward and down
3.churn- v. to turn milk or cream in a machine in order to produce butter
4.dispatch- v. to send off to a destination or for a purpose
5.fetches- v. go for and then bring back
6.cheerful- adj. happy and optimistic
7.search- v. to try and find something by looking
8.choke- v. having difficulty breathing because of a constricted throat or lack of air

Hint: If the final ‘ch’ sound comes after a consonant, the ending is -ch. For example: search, church, branch, finch. When the final ‘ch’ sound follows a one-letter vowel, it’s usually written -tch.
