Week of October 2nd

Welcome back!  I hope you had a wonderful week off filled with family time and relaxation!  I know my family reconnected and spent some quality time together.  This week, we are returning back to our daily routine and we will jump into some new learning concepts.

IMPORTANT DATES:

10/2 – Conference Week Letters will come home – Please return ASAP

10/6 – Reflections Entries are due, Spelling test

10/12 – Early Release Day

10/16-10/20 – Conference Week – Early Release all week

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THIS WEEK:

Math – We will begin to look at perimeter, why it’s important and how to calculate it

Reading – We are moving to a new standard by looking at selecting evidence to back up our interpretation of the text.  This helps to deepen our understanding of the text and build confidence as readers.

Writing –  We are finishing up our fictional narratives and beginning a short writing piece as we look at opinion writing.

Spelling – We will have our test on Friday over sort 4

Grammar – We will be looking at vivid verbs and how they enhance our writing

Science – We are beginning a unit on simple machines, force and motion.

Health – We will spend a few days digging into healthy choices by learning about what smoking does to our bodies.
